The only thing on my Bucket List.

Okay. SLEEPING LATE first draft is…a book. That’s good. It means I just need to tune it before submitting it, not go into major rewrite mode. Which is nice, since Australia and jetlag and poison oak and a few other things threw me out of schedule. It’s hard to stay on top of things, despite best efforts at organization and increased writing speed (a perk of being a veteran). I’m always amused by comic book villains and their plans to rule the world. I can’t even rule my downstairs office.

Tad’s Mood Today

I’m spending the day on the office couch reading my own book manuscript — in this case, SLEEPING LATE ON JUDGEMENT DAY, which still needs a quick edit to qualify as a first draft others can read. I’m listening to Massive Attack. The afternoon weather is gray and damp, but there is an absolutely luminous red-headed woodpecker on the bird feeder. Life is complicated.

This photo means nothing, except it’s one of the most Eighties things I’ve seen in years. Useless information points for those of you who know Taco’s last name without looking it up.

Our remaining cat is kicking the boo-ha out of his scratching post. Looks very satisfying. I think I need one myself. A scratching post, not another cat. Actually, now that I think of it, I could just get rid of this cat and then I’d inherit the scratching post.

I am sneaking away from my desk to play basketball. Keep it on the down low. I’m talking schtum.

Amazing critter. I mean, just look!

This insect is a Treehopper. There are about 3,200 species of treehoppers- and they all look weird! See them all here http://bit.ly/11VEFea

The guilty all left town a long time ago, or just vanished. No one will ever know who drew this comic book cover. Or who posed for it…

Last one for the night. The only thing that ever stopped a bad guy with a gun was a good guy with a werewolf, vampire, Medusa, and a Frankenstein.

And since I think we were discussing Olsen and apes…

Any claim made in Metropolis in the 1950s and 1960s had to treated as possible or even likely. There was literally no such thing as an outlandish statement.

You also have to appreciate the fact that somewhere along the line, Gorilla Jimmy convinced somebody to bring him a desk, a typewriter, and a “Jimmy Olsen” desk plate, yet he still can’t get them to let him out of the cage.

Seriously. Don’t even think about it.

And they think Deadpool invented breaking the 4th wall.

As I sadly — and terrifyingly — admitted, I have probably thousands. It started out I was just grabbing covers that I remembered with nostalgia, but then it got out of hand. I almost killed a man over a JPEG of Action Comics #1. I’m sick but I can’t stop!

I got rid of all my comics long ago. These are just images of covers. A whole new level of sad geekiness.

The best thing about DC covers from the 60s and 70s is that they would spell out the tortured logic of the story right there, so you didn’t even have to read it. Usually it involved apes.
