Re: What Are You Reading Now, Hmmmmm?
Finished The Braided Path. It was fairly good, but I had some issues with it. Not bad though. About to start Brian Ruckley's Winterbirth.

@Hoobie : By Chris Wooding? I liked that. Haven't read the other books in the trilogy yet, though.
Still reading The Windup Girl by Paulo Bacigalupi
Dunno how I'm gonna read all the Hugo books in time before voting expires.

I read about that - sounds interesting, but since I've still got a bunch of books to read and re-read, I'm not going to buy any more for a while.

I know the feeling, Magpie. My to-be-read pile just keeps growing and growing. I am not finished reading the books for the Hugos yet, and I still have yet to finish a book I am supposed to be reviewing. Then there's reading for the thesis, and an additional postgrad assignment. It's enough to turn one's brain to moosh.

I polished off A Far Cry From Kensington by Muriel Spark and I've begun A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian by Marina Lewycka.

Re: What Are You Reading Now, Hmmmmm?
I just finished A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian by Marina Lewycka. Really liked the book. Like the chatty style it was written in.
Next up is Bel Canto by Ann Patchett.

yeah thats the one... I found it got better as the trilogy progressed. Definitely worth a read, just not my favorite.

Re: What Are You Reading Now, Hmmmmm?
Still on my MST re-read. Now I'm halfway through the first part of To Green Angel Tower - it appears I've really read the later parts far less often than DBC, because I remember them far less clearly - it's not that I have forgotten how anything happens, but I often find that I've forgotten that something happens - always a pleasant surprise to start a scene and remembering how much I liked it on previous reads. Knowing beforehand that I'll enjoy it makes it even more enjoyable to read. I suppose if I'm reading a book for the first time, there's always the tension of, "yes, something nice is happening now, but something horrible is bound to happen soon, too", which isn't there any more during the re-reads, allowing me to savour the nice parts more.
Also, I rule AT. Not that that's difficult.

LOVE the graveyard book....
Re-reading Smarch series.... had promised myself not to so until last book was out, but you know.... books... they just keep staring at you... making you feel guilty for not picking them up.... nasty...

Oh, yes- I remember the series very well! It's so sad that it didn't sell that well in german, the publisher cancelled the last 2 books:(
still reading The Passage. Might finish it tonight I can't imagine how there is going to be a second part(yet).

Love de Lint.
When reading "Graveyard," I kept getting mental flashes of Edward Gorey illustrations.

Reading the totally sweet "First Law" trilogy - on the last book. If your tastes in fantasy lean towards the George R.R. Martin camp, it might be for you.
Also enjoying Colum McCann's "Let The Great World Spin."

Just finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. Loved it! Next up is Starwater Strains by Gene Wolfe.

Re: What Are You Reading Now, Hmmmmm?
I've set aside Starwater Strains and picked up David Weber's By Schism Rent Asunder instead. The Wolfe book was just not holding my interest so I switched to mindless candy reading instead.

Re: What Are You Reading Now, Hmmmmm?
Finished By Schism Rent Asunder by David Weber. It still reads like something written by an adolescent boy for adolescent boys. But I sill liked it in a cotton candy kind of way.
Next up is The Pyramid by Henning Mankell.

Finished Bloodheir and started Fall of Thanes. Was somewhat disappointed with Bloodheir... didn't live up to the standard set by Winterbirth IMO. Still pretty good though...

The middle of the three was the weakest, but as a whole they were a great read. I can't wait until the movies make it to the US. I'm curious about them.
I finished The Private Patient by P.D. James last night and I'm about to start The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.
