Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Wheel of Time TV-adaption happening

Clickety

Produced under the wings of Sony.

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time is a story that takes place both in our past and our future. In his fantasy world, the Dark One, the embodiment of pure evil, is breaking free from his prison. The overall plot is about a man who learns that he is the reincarnation of the world's messiah and is once again destined to save the world from the Dark One -- but possibly destroy it in the process. This saga is not only his story, but the story of an entire world's struggle to deal with war and change, destruction and hope.

Executive Producer = Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Chuck)

Re: Wheel of Time TV-adaption happening

Exciting news!

I sure hope it's better than that last pilot! And better than the garbled mess that WOT ended up being, after starting off so promising. I think an adaptation could smooth some of the rough edges, pare down the extraneous characters, and fix the stuff that went unedited. I'd definitely watch to see if it's possible to make this into a great TV series!

Re: Wheel of Time TV-adaption happening

Let's hope for a version of the story with the main themes and characters intact, but otherwise free to break new grounds. As long as it has good writers... and a serious mood. Not something like Legend of the Seeker (The Sword of Truth adaption), please.

They'll have to use hair stunt doubles that develop special fake braid tugging techniques akin to stunt combat.

Okay, now let's discuss casting. Who should play the core characters?

Re: Wheel of Time TV-adaption happening

I have no idea. Most of the characters are young. I don't know young actors. Hell, I don't know many actors at all, though I am getting slightly better.

Going by the books, this would be full of eyecandy (both genders - pretty much everyone is described as good looking), but not in the explicit GoT way.

Re: Wheel of Time TV-adaption happening

Doesn't matter how they are described in books, in film/tv they're usually eye-candy anyway :)

I also don't know many actors...

I don't care because I will certainly not watch this. I am old I do not have time anymore for TV adaptions of mediocre endless fantasy series.

Re: Wheel of Time TV-adaption happening

I will probably give this a shot when it comes out. I don't have an interest in reading the rest of the series, but maybe an adaptation will have some freedom to tweak things and make it a more interesting story.

No need to duck, Ylvs!

I definitely didn't find the first three volumes mediocre. But what happened afterwards was IMO a slow-moving trainwreck, somehow captured in print. Characters introduced just to have more characters. Plotlines that went nowhere for ten volumes. And a story that appeared to be stuck in molasses... for 10,000 pages.

Maybe a TV adaptation could fix the huge issues that developed with the series. Maybe a TV show could cut out 1,000 of the most annoying characters. Maybe under a good director/producer team, they could reshape the program into something watchable. I would watch to find out.

And if it didn't, I'd just stop watching. :)

If it's bad, sure.

Then again, if it's really bad, watching it can be as addictive as crack.

Which one was Lord of Chaos? The one they finally find the stupid bowl they were looking for, for five volumes, or the one with the crappy romance cover?
