Translation in Portuguese
Hi, I need help...
My sister in law, who is Brazilian, felt very ill and I want to give her something special for the long time of chemotherapy...
She loves fantasy and I think she would adore the Osten Ard Books... are they translated in Portuguese?
In which publishing house? Can I buy it in Brazil or perhaps in Germany?
I count on you...

No, Tad's books are not available in Portuguese.
All of Tad's books are available in German, but I don't suppose that helps her?
I'm sorry I don't have better news for your sister in law. I hope she gets through her chemotherapy without too much discomfort.

Hi. Actually, SOME of MS&T has been translated to portuguese. In Brazil, The Dragonbone Chair has been divided in three books by a publisher called Editora Siciliano. Weirdly enough, however, only the fisrt two have been actually published. So, in Brazil, you may find the two books called "Simon, o Tolo" and "Simon, o Peregrino". Those are very rare books, collector's itens actually. Hopefully, with the success of aSoIaF here, publishers will rediscover Tad Williams and publish the whole series.

Hi, yvls, and thanks for the welcome message! I'm glad to be here. I've recently started a MS&T re-read, and the old flame has quicly been revived. So, it's good to be among you people.
That's a good idea; I'll pm him/her.
Just to complete the information: here, the peculiar cover art to the peculiar brazilian edition. As you can see, "dragonbone" has been taken for a proper name, instead of the stuff the "chair" is made of. The correct portuguese title should be "O trono de ossos de dragão", instead of "O trono de Dragonbone".

All thing considered, however, I have a kind of a soft spot in m heart for those two books, because they were the first fantasy books I've ever read -- I was a kid then, in the early 90s. It was a painful experience, too, because I couldnt find the rest of the series in portuguese, and I didn't speak any other language then. Years later, I ended up reading the whole series in spanish (there are a lot of fantasy nerds in Uruguay and Argentina!).
So, that's the story of a brazilian Tad Williams's fan for you.

Oh, by the way, I'd like to thank Argentina and Uruguay for being the lighthouse of Fantasy in South America. I remember that, as a kid growing up on the border of Brazil with Uruguay and Argentina, going south of the border was like getting into Middle Earth. Bookshops in Argentina and Uruguay were always full of sci-fi and fantasy. My first Tolkien, my first Ursula Le Guin, my first Asimov, my first Sturgeon, all were read in spanish translations. Nowadays it's easy to buy anything in Brazil, but back in the 90s, without online shopping, every summer trip to Punta Del Este was like an adventure-quest for fantastic realms.
