Re: Deborahdore's Army (Bobby $) - Limited Time to Get Involved, Act Now
Got my copy on Saturday and started reading already. I've read up to chapter 6 and am already liking it... I am very much enjoying Bobby Dollar's general attitude as the cynic/skeptic. Will be doing a first read through to enjoy and then a second read through on which I'll primarily base reviews (but I'll include how I FIRST felt reading it too.)

Re: Deborahdore's Army (Bobby $) - Limited Time to Get Involved, Act Now
Re the quotations issue - the text has not changed significantly from the proofs, guys, so feel free to quote. One caveat - please keep the quotes to a minimum length because I think there will be one or two blogs round about publication day that will want exclusive extracts. Longer quotations are best avoided for the moment.

Actually, I have nothing much to add to what Lisa already said.
Reviews on Amazon are very important and can have great influence. However, I would not recommend posting reviews on Amazon at this early date. Rather better to post them immediately around pub day. But a good number of Amazon reviews can help to boost a title.
I have started a wordpress blog specifically to collect all info about TDSOH for easy reference.

Re: Deborahdore's Army (Bobby $) - Limited Time to Get Involved, Act Now
Reviews of the type Olaf dicusses - I reckon, probably start posting on sites 2 weeks to 10 days before publication...
I am also wondering if I can say to peeps in the social media world, please if you're going to buy, do so for pub day and give us a numbers bump...

Re: Deborahdore's Army (Bobby $) - Limited Time to Get Involved, Act Now
What about review/ discussion threads on other MBs?
Westeros.org e.g. is as lively as Smarch was in the early days, if anybody else is registered there it would be nice to have different reviews on a MB that is mostly visited by people which are likely to read Tad anyway ...

I guess it is too late for me, as well, then, although it sure would have been nice to read alongside Ylvs and Cyan and the rest. Still, it's cool you all will get a chance, and I'll peek over your shoulders from time to time.

That's an excellent point, Ylvs. Firsfron - did you email me? I'm all out of proofs right now, though there's someone not responding, from the army.

Westeros.org is a good and lively place with lots and lots of discussion, I also have an account there, but they are very ruthless when it comes to promoting stuff for the sake of promoting. When we start discussions there they have to be genuine..
The mb on terrybrooks.net is also very busy and also very Tad-friendly. That might be worth a look too.

What's Christopher Paolini's website - does he have one? He's promoted Tad a lot this past year, bless him.

Re: Deborahdore's Army (Bobby $) - Limited Time to Get Involved, Act Now
I read the Prologue and thought, "Okay, this is okay. Not sure what's going on, but it's only a couple of pages so I can just go with the flow."
Started the first half of Chapter 1 and thought, "More names I don't know, but I get the jist - a new guy joined the team."
Read the interlude in Chapter 1 and thought, "Okay. They're on their first case... but after reading the back of the book, I feel I know where it's going so I'm not quite as excited as I want to be."
Read the rest of Chapter 1 and though, "Oh. My God. YES! This is exactly what I was waiting for."
Then I was hooked and the rest is history.

I don't think we have to worry about westeros.org, Olaf. We're the DA and not some mindless promoters for the sake of promotion, aren't we?

That reminds me of my first read of MST. Except that it took me about a hundred pages to get to the I-was-hooked part. That changed over the years though. I now love the long introduction with all its hidden gems and forshadowing.

@ylvs Just saying...they can be a ruthless bunch over there:-)
@deborah
Christopher Paolini has no personal website. However, he has a publishers sponsored website at http://www.alagaesia.com/ and a fan site at http://shurtugal.com/ . He uses both sites to communicate with fans. And he is pretty active on twitter!

Tahnks for the warning Olaf, but there is only one place in the net that I take personal and this is here. So I need not to worry ...

I never read Brooks I think and did not manage to finish Eragon as it bored me too much but what about Gaiman's MB? Weirdly enough I'm not registered there (I love his books as much as Tad's and he is the only writer to have that honour :-)) but that is easily to be changed ...

I have also never read Brooks, but the MB is a (mostly) friendly place to browse (I only ever visit the OTHER AUTHORS section of the mb). And the webmaster (Shawn Speakman is a Tad-fan).

Re: Deborahdore's Army (Bobby $) - Limited Time to Get Involved, Act Now
I'm pretty sure, if we're interesting and funny, that we'll get decent reception on the 2 Christopher sites, and Terry Brooks also (and yes know Sean.)
Gaiman MB's a really interesting idea!!! I have NO IDEA if fans on his message board have any feeling for Tad's books, but you know they might for Bobby Dollar. I'd be REALLY interested to see what sort of reaction we'd get there, though. I've encountered Gaiman fans in the past who've been kind of sniffy & prickly.

How about Jim Butcher's MB? I must admit, I couldn't help making the comparison to The Dresden Files (both BD and Harry got wise-cracking skillz!). I don't know what the members are like but I think our Renfield still hangs out over there.
Also, maybe send a Big Idea piece to John Scalzi? His blog has a sizable readership.

This is fun already ... and didn't I say ages ago (I think in the Mint) that Bobby Dollar might revive the board? This is not what I had in mind but I like it a lot!

Yeah, that was my reaction too. I'm a big Gaiman fan, as well as a big Rothfuss fan, as well as a big fan of a bunch of other writers... yet, Tad is my No. 1! I've got lots of love to spread around but I know where my heart resides. I'm a Smarcher :-)

Re: Deborahdore's Army (Bobby $) - Limited Time to Get Involved, Act Now
From British publlisher Hodder via facebook
We've just had a stupendously good quote from the brilliant Patrick Rothfuss for THE DIRTY STREETS OF HEAVEN by Tad Williams:
“When I heard that Tad Williams was writing an urban fantasy novel, I got all tingly. Now I’ve read it, and it’s even better than I’d dared to hope. It’s snarky, fast-paced, and above all, original. You should be tingly, too.”
Hope you are all getting tingly! Now, roll on September.
