Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

New website!

Hey everyone, just thought I'd post the link to the new updated website. It has a trailer showing some of the worlds and features, although it doesn't go into much detail. The website also has some new screen shots. You can register to the site, if you do it says you have a chance for being picked as a beta tester, really hoping this game turns out well.

Here's the link: http://otherland-game.com

Haha, forgot to post the link the first time. Rather stupid of me seeing as I opened the post with "just thought I'd post the link". -sigh-

The video looks very promising even if it is a bit fast for mine ole eyes.

I was surprised though how many people in the comments hate the books. As my favourite film critic says "Other opinions are available ... but they are WRRRROOOONNNGG!"

Re: New website!

Good that I periodicly stop by to get some info, nearly gave up on the MMO since the sites been unchanged for like forever.

Im very glad to see this finally taking form, but this brings me to an older question Tad&Deborah: Will there be an Open-Beta which we can attempt to? It's harsh leaving us waiting for so long. :P

gamigo also opened up an official Facebook page:

The more the merrier. Specially for a game like this, they'll rely a lot of word to mouth via social networks so remember to share if you care ^^

Re: New website!

Yeah, I doubt that they will have a whole lot of cash tied into marketing for this game so to make the community better all of us that are interested in this game need to do whatever we can to bring this game to the forefront.

I am inviting everyone on my facebook friend's list to like this. Social status be damned, lol.

When I registered on the website and verified my account, I got an email saying that I'd be among the first to play when the beta was released. I just have to wait for the email. Hopefully you should get this email too if you register with the site now. :)

Re: New website!

registered! Now hoping to get a beta key.

My auto reply said so but I wont believe that until I got it.

Trailer looks nice but also wakes some "fears". Free 2 play hu? If made some experience with "free" 2 play games and their item shop system. In some you can play free but need to work harder ingame to get the best equipd and stuff, which is anoying but ok. In others you simply dont get to see all of the game if you dont pay- like getting a biger test version and thats it: sucks.
E-DNA and Myland smells much like expensive item shop stuff.
Let´s see how its going to turn out -
Trouble with free to play games is in my opinnion that in many of them you end up paying a lot more for the game than you would have with a monthly subscription fee.
I hope it´s going to be something in between, pay to get things faster but not necessary.
(Example: Your able to buy item shop stuff from other players with ingame money)

Re: New website!

Was the E-DNA stuff in the books?  I don't remember it, but it sounds so familiar I am sure I read about it somewhere...

Re: New website!

E-DNA is EXPLAINED in the books, but it is not given a name. The viruses Sellars creates follow a mutation pattern like that of DNA based creatures, and they are the first to do so, having hit the complexity level of no return according to Dollo's Law. The DNA-style mechanism by which the Next, Nemesis, and Otherland itself mutate is explained at the end of the fourth book as having finally come to fruition.

The game is set after the books, so presumably this information mutation process has taken off, and obviously been given a name.
