Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Re: Tad is coming to Europe!

Yeah, I figure it should be possible for us to be in Göttingen around 3-ish. I'd like to wander around the city a bit still before going into the evening, but dinner together definitely sounds good.

Also emailed Deborah to find out Tad's schedule for the day; see if there's any chance of him joining us for dinner. Not too hopeful, he's probably swamped with interviews and the like, but worth a try. (And experience has taught me that Deborah is more on top of her email than Tad is.) :)

Re: Tad is coming to Europe!

Xavie, all is well, I did not understood it mean. But thanks for the funny vivid picture you put in my head!

Aan I also thought about contacting Deborah as I still have no word from Tad but as you already did I won't. You keep us informed if there's anything new ok?

Do you want to wander around Göttingen on your own or might we join?

Re: Tad is coming to Europe!

I guess I will really call some people tomorrow and see if I can find somewhere to sleep - I already asked my boss, and he says I shouldn't worry too much about being late on Friday (since I'll probably just miss my train to work), they don't need me that badly.

Re: Tad is coming to Europe!

Just had an email from Tad that he probably won't have time during the day but will certainly come out with us after the reading. Yay for real  Smarchmoot!

Re: Tad is coming to Europe!

Yes I eat meat. I'm not a great fan of beans. And I love cats (though I've never tried eating them for obvious reasons).

Re: Tad is coming to Europe!

Well, having met Tad, I understand even better why Smarchers are the way they are - the rule about "no drinking while Smarching" certainly applies to hearing him talk as well. I was so thirsty already, but didn't dare drink anything during the question and answer session because I don't think the people in front of me would have appreciated a shower.

Such a shame you couldn't be there, sisterdew. Tad says get better soon, and I did tell him this means he'll have to come back soon.

Though, if it's any consolation, some people had won a dinner with him, so they were waiting for him, and he didn't have time to talk to me afterwards. I did get the Smarchmap signed, though.
The reading was filmed, too, and will be put online - I'll post a link as soon as it's up.

And now I'm supposed to go back to work? Bah. Really not in the mood!

Re: Tad is coming to Europe!

New signature for the Smarchmap

And babbling on at my blog, mostly about stuff that Tad said during the Q&A (I don't mention that I'm a Smarcher on my blog, which was something of a challenge while writing that particular post.)

Re: Tad is coming to Europe!

ylvs, Sahi: For meeting up tomorrow, let's say 17:30 in front of the main entrance of the theater? We can then go wander and find dinner from there... (If you have a counter proposal, that's fine as well; we'll check this topic tomorrow before leaving.)

Re: Tad is coming to Europe!

@yvls

I would love to and have even considered going and looked into train connections and hotels, but I can`t miss Monday at work. The Christmas season is truly upon us now and two of my superiors are coming (one all the way from Hamburg), and I need to be at my bookstore. Unfortunatley! But I will meet Tad on Friday. I will even pick him up from the station and take care that he has something to proper eat before we go to the store and start the signing. So, there will be something to look forward to.

Re: Tad is coming to Europe!

Olaf - we had loads of fun and we said hi.

Sahi just left to catch her train, family left to school, kindergarden, work and just called the office and told them that I had to take my weekly day off today because my brain is not working due to lack of sleep.
But before I hit the sack again I just wanted to tell you all how much I enjoyed last night, how lovely it was to meet you again and that I hope there'll be another Smarch meet in the not too distant future!

@Aan: Just to give final proof how wise Tad is when he says "you should never argue with pregnant women even if they are not pregnant anymore." It's been six years!
