Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

I hate those kinds of meetings.

It's overcast here for the first time in a few days, although it has been absolutely pouring down at 6pm every day here for a while.

Re: QM - The Pantry

The meeting wasn't too bad after all. The chair(wo)man had arranged a replacement beforehand, so all we had to do was approve the new chairman. I think the meeting lasted only one hour. It started a bit late, because we had to cheer two fencing champions first (but they pollitely asked if we agreed to that and we all heartily concurred). After the meeting I stayed for a bit to chat to some people

Today I'm going to try finishing the cardigan I'm knitting for my niece, so I can give it to my sister as a present for her birthday. (Seeing how the niece is only one year old.)

Re: QM - The Pantry

Finally time to sit down and have some breakfast - I've been up for three hours, doing laundry, going shopping, picking up the car - in a couple of minutes, as soon as the current load is done and I have put more laundry in the washing machine, I'll load up the car with empty book boxes and drive out to my workplace - we can use those boxes for customers' plants.

I've picked up my suitcase (that was in the shop to be repaired), bought groceries, went with Ivo to pick up the pictures he had developed and had lunch. I'm now working on my knitting.

Taking out buttonholes is even harder than putting them in.

Re: QM - The Pantry

Ended up spending 1.5 hours in the car, first delivering the boxes, then finding out where the driver security training centre is (I have to go there tomorrow morning, and I'd rather not get lost and be late - the damn training will take long enough as it is, from 9 to 5:30. What a wonderful, relaxing Sunday that will be!)

Re: QM - The Pantry

I think it's the longest I've ever driven outside of lessons. It went OK, but it's so hard not to let my attention wander for so long!

And by now two people have assured me that the driver security training is actually quite fun. I'm still not convinced I'll find skidding cars fun.

Re: QM - The Pantry

I'm trying not to sit here and go, "I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna" - but of course I do it anyway. I don't even want to be awake yet, let alone get in a car in a quarter of an hour and have "fun" learning what to do when the car is skidding (I know it'll be useful and all, but I still don't wanna!

Re: QM - The Pantry

Rest asssured, I've had one of those skidding courses too (even though there not necessary here). And despite feeling like you do, I DID have a lot of fun that day. It was a company outing, and I only went along because I thought it would be a useful skill to have. But it turned out to be lots of fun.

Re: QM - The Pantry

Skidding cars deliberately is quite fun. Having it happen at 70km on a dirt road when you don't expect it is not fun. Not at all.

Being able to recover from a slide will probably save your life one day.

Re: QM - The Pantry

Well, I wouldn't call it fun, but it was OK, and not as scary as I expected - it certainly helps to have flat ground all around and an instructor giving instructions (yes, that sounds stupid, but I'm too tired to think of a better word) on a walkie-talkie.
Mostly, though, it was just a lot of waiting while the rest of the group did the exercises, so the day dragged on a bit. And my left foot and knee hurt from stepping on the clutch so often.

Anyway, now I can do the last "perfection drive" and then the driving school FINALLY has to leave me alone!

Re: QM - The Pantry

I finally bought myself a clock for the living room on Saturday, and today finished the crazy stuff I wanted to do to it - you know that clock Mrs Weasley has? The one with a hand for every family member, and stuff like "home", "school", "hospital" or "mortal peril" instead of numbers? We made that clock out of paper for one of our Harry Potter parties years ago, and I've now put that paper clock over the face of my new clock, all nine paper hands included. *laughs at self* Now I just need to hang it.

Re: QM - The Pantry

Hmm, we had the instructor sitting right beside us (pulling the hand break every now and then when we didn't skid enough). And we were sitting in the car with the rest of our 'team'. So three students to every car and an instructor.

No, we were all by ourselves. And had a fancy thingy that pulled the back wheels sideways while you drove over it to make the car spin.

Re: QM - The Pantry

Yeah, that would take the fun out of anything. Well at least it's over now. And if the weather over there is anything like it is here, we should have an entire week of sunshine.

Yesterday I made a mistake. A costly one that will probably mean I'll have to go to work today after all. See, I was planning to work from home today, as I have to visit the orthodontist. But then I left my adapter at home. So I only have about 3 hours worth of power for my laptop...

Re: QM - The Pantry

Went to the driving school yesterday to sign up for the last "perfection drive"/fuel saving training. Walked in, told them that, one of the instructors sitting at the desk looked up and said, "How about tomorrow at six?" Someone had cancelled, so they had a free place. So I did it today - and now I'm all done with the driving school! Yay!
