Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Tad Williams called it... it's coming.

I know we're all excited about the upcoming Otherland MMORG...
But watch this video, I give a real life 'Jongleur' about 10 years and Otherland is reality.

Be sure to watch this in HD. ;)

Incredible video. Thanks for posting this. My concern is: what about lag? Will creating everything in atoms instead of polygons just cause the game to have a lot more lag over networks?

It does remind me of the way visual detail is conveyed in Otherland.

Re: Tad Williams called it... it's coming.

I forgot to watch in HD!!!!

In the real world, electrons are affected by electrons that are impossibly far-away. Maybe they used this to compact the positions and configurations of each atom into the configurations of a minority of the atoms. Or maybe they developed a new method of processing voxels into visual data. What I look-forward to seeing is "real" water.

*insert epic music*
I think it's legit.

Video makes me think of my aunt, who says that speaking through a microphone is not "real", and that clicking a mouse is not "real", and that using a spoon is not "real", and that wearing gloves is not "real", and that waiting for the brain signals to reach your arm is not "real", and that hearing the speech-vibrations created from someone else is not "real". Going back to this "Am I me?" post that I read an hour ago, I believe I am inspired to write my response to his question.
