Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Is there still a world outside? It is sooo hot here, I don't set foot outside my door anymore. Just huddle in front of the air-con and the fan.

*yaaaawn*

It is unseasonably hot here as well. Walked out the door this morning, early, and felt like I was stepping into a sauna. Low 80's and 65% humidity.

Awesome, Libra! *glees most gleeingly*

Now we just have to hope sisterdew isn't on holiday at that time, because it would be a shame to have you in Austria twice in one year and not get to meet her.

Bwahahaha! We posted almost the same thing, at almost the same time! Two seconds! Now you'll really need to come (or we'll need to come to Vienna, depending on how much time Libra has), or she'll never believe we're not the same person!

LOL! No holiday planned for the next two months(yay?), although on the 13th of August I'm invited to a wedding, so that weekend's out for sure;-)

Re: QM - The Neverending well

I have no idea yet when this is going to be, but most most certain that it will not be during castlefest as I will be AT castlefest..... so.... And I was gleeing muchly when I found out they're in Linz... hahahaha...

I mean I will be there for at least a week, so I'm certain that a moot should be possible.... they can't hold me in the office every night, right?!!!

*grin* They tried to make me say this crazy Austrian sentence about a squirrel I guess.... seems to be the ultimate test for austrian accents.... hahaha, they were so much fun, I half expected pink lace to come up in the conversation!

Oachkatzlschwoaf?

Whoops, how did it get so late? Really need to go to bed. And finally figure out where to sleep during Castlefest, I keep putting that off.

Are you still up for Oxford then? Would be a pity if you could not come with all the exciting things going on in your life right now. (I was counting on some advice on how to move to the UK from you, you know?)

Und...Glückwunsch zum Deutsch-Test! He.

FLYING HOME TONIGHT! Yeah. Just twiddling my thumbs until the airport shuttle picks me up. Cicadas are so noisy by now I cannot even watch TV or listen to music peacefully. Day temperature is 35 degrees.

The Internet tells me that it means 'the tail of a squirrel'. I have a feeling that something has gone awry in translation ;)

The internet is more or less correct, it's "squirrel tail".

I'm trying to come up with more silly Austrian words now... there's one my ladyboss taught me, "Ödögödögö" (except that most of those "ö"s aren't quite the same as the standard german "ö"), meaning "oil pot lid" ("Öltiegeldeckel" in standard german)

Re: QM - The Neverending well

Well, this is just great - per the weather channel - "dangerous heat index. Outdoor exposure should be limited." According to them, "feels like" 109F!!!! Humidity is at 50%.

*wilts*

Edited 'cause it IS the first day of Summer.

Oxford is already settled, no way that I'm going to miss it!!! It's only three days anyway.... and with the things as they are, I think I might even try getting a room in Oxford.... then it will be more quiet....

Und sehr viele Danke!!! Jetzt werde ich die Deutsche Grammatika wieder lernen müssen!!

[edited to say] Moving to UK???? London area maybe? Would be an extremely good time with WFC coming to Brighton in 2013!!!

Re: QM - The Neverending well

So, I should start collecting silly Austrian words?

Hmm... Söckibea, maybe? Funnily enough, I learned that one in England (on the school trip with the Brotherbeastie).

I really need to go and wash the dishes!

Well Austrian German would be fine for a start... hahahaha... like typical differences in language use or something....

Re: QM - The Neverending well

Söckibea is one of those weird Austrian words (I just learned it from the teacher while on that trip) - it means "sock bear" - sheep.

Re: QM - The Neverending well

It's so hollow in my living room (yes, sadly my dad needed to use internet, so now I'm in my nearly empty house doing the internet!!).... and much excitement as two bulky men just stopped their security van at the busstop and got out, obviously waiting for the bus to arrive... ooohhh... what might have happened??
