Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Re: QM - The 80's

My day is going slowly. Mostly spent on procrastination.

I should be looking for a new job, but I feel guilty over not having told my boss yet. I know it makes sense not to tell him until I've found a new job, but still...

Another day off tomorrow - another driving lesson. Oh joy.

Now I gotta call the OUTG and ask if she's passed her apprenticeship finals.

Gah. I've got a thorn in the tip of my right forefinger, and I can't get it out. It's very annoying when using the mouse.

Re: QM - The 80's

Huzzah for more lectures!

Today we shall be learning about the conduct of mounted operations, urban combat and the characteristics and effects of urban terrain.

That is all.

Re: QM - The 80's

Here are some interesting examples of urban combat:

1. Stalingrad: August 1942-January 1943.

2. Manila: February 1945-March 1945.

3. Berlin: April 1945-May 1945.

4. Seoul: September 1950.

5. Hue: February 1968.

Busy day ahead - I'd hoped to get some time to relax, but now it's shopping, then driving lesson, and right after, meeting up with a friend. I don't expect to get much time to myself.

Monday is a public holiday. None of the civilians on the garrison work weekends or public holidays which means no mail for me :(

I would throw JB's of doom at the package delivery system, but that would prolly gum up the works some more!

"Conduct of mounted operations"? The mind wonders.

Yay, that was my last hour of the first week after my holiday. And also the last week before my holiday! :) Ivo is taking me to the South of our country for a long weekend in a hotel.

Re: QM - The 80's

It seems that my attempts at getting pictures printed are cursed - first half of the pictures weren't copied to the CD I sent in. And now, I just got the second batch - but as it turned out, I didn't specify what size I wanted, so they printed it in their standard size - which is too big for the albums I have (and probably for most albums). BAH!

Also, I've now made a total mess, and have no idea what order the pictures should go in.

Whee, picture-sorting and cutting finished. Now I can finally put the last Smarchmoot group picture up on the wall.

O-o-o-o-o, pictures!

I'm starting a new pair of socks, toe up, with a provisional cast on. I'm really excited about them, there's no seam anywhere.

Re: QM - The 80's

I got a lot of yarn last Saturday - we walked past the needlework shop on the way from one flea market, and went, "oh, this one's pretty - and this one - and this one -!" Went to the counter with about six skeins of sock yarn.
Now my yarn box is overflowing, and I need to wind it all into balls to make more space.

I ordered seven or eight skeins last night. There's a lack of yarn stores in the area. Or at least decent yarn stores in the area.

Re: QM - The 80's

Don't remind me. To think how many of them have closed round here just in the few years that I've paid attention... the way it's going, a few more years, and there'll be none left at all.

Time to get back to writing. I must stock up on granola bars - my writing food.
