Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

QM - The 80's

You look around you and see that everyone seems to be wearing denim jackets and has utterly atrocious haircuts. The guy bending down to pump up his nike air's has a mullet! Arnold schwarzenegger is there wearing a metallica T-shirt and totally not governing california.

It's the 80's. A time when people thought BMX's were like totally awesome, Tom Cruise was still cool and some idiot decided to mock my mental inability forever more by inventing the rubiks cube. I hate those things!

But it wasn't all bad. Two very important things happened. People recognised that Heavy Metal was indeed awesome and I was born. yaaaay!

Three things! I was born in the 80's, too!:D

and because the 26th page of the mint doesn't count, I'll repost it here:

the substitute of my GP thinks that I have celiac disease, which fits my symptoms. I read tons about it on the internet, and the pictures of the rashes- that's ME! So I have a colonoscopy scheduled for next tuesday. I'll be sedated, thank Dog! And hopefully will get a diagnosis.

Celiac disease is actually something I could live with. Sure, I wouldn't be able to eat bread(and rolls and so on..) and many other things that contain gluten(like beer! but I'm not that fond of beer anyways. I hope it won't take Cider away from me), but it's not life threatening or making me uncomofrtable once it's under control.

Its not too bad nowadays. There are *alot* of gluten free products and recepies out there nowadays and the vast majority of restaurant over here cater for celiacs.

Maybe strange to say, but I'm happy for you... There's nothing worse than not knowing what's going on in your body! And (just googled it) this seems to be a disease that you can control even if it means not eating certain food-types.. (and then still, one sin will at least cause you known uncomfort)...

Exactly- at one point I was so desperate that I told my colleague/friend that I'd rather know that I have something BAD(like, leukemia or Lupus or any other autoimmune disease, all of which were possibilities at some point. But it's never Lupus, hehe) than not knowing what's going on.

I'm happy too:)
a) the doctor didn't dismiss the idea and b) he referred me to a specialist AND they will see me within a week. That's freakin' amazing.

Re: QM - The 80's

Ah, the 80's.  The era of Michael Jackson, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Hulk Hogan, and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, Star Trek: The Next Generation.

And what the heck, dude?  BMX bikes are totally rad.

Oh, wait a minute.  When you said "bad," you really meant "good."  Cuz it's the 80's.  Gotcha.

Unfortunately, the current trend says that would not be a bad move.  And I find that fact more than a little disturbing.

w00t!
I got a cheque in the mail, from my insurance. Premium payment, somehow or other. In any case, it's unexpected 20€(not much, but still!) and the first time I ever got a cheque!

Also I'd like to shamelessly self promote myself and ask a big favour for anyone who hasn't helped me out in the help me choose some entries into a competition thread. If y'all could take a few moments of your time and give me a hand I will be eternally grateful and may even erect a seventeen foot monument in your honour of you standing there looking all awesome with a smaller figure off to the side both admiring and being completely overcome by the awesomeness.

Re: QM - The 80's

Hooooolidays!
My boss came home from his holiday yesterday, and asked me when I wanted to go - I'd already told him I needed the first two weeks of August. Looked at the calendar, and he said, "why don't you take next week off, too?"
So, now, three weeks of freedom! (I don't even work all year, but I still get the full five weeks holiday time. Neat.)

Vacation -- all I ever wanted!

I've got oodles of time off coming, but cannot take it more than a day or two at a time due to work load. *sigh* I'm hoping for more than a couple days off in September to go to Washington, DC, and do the "tacky tourist" thingee.

I do hope this is paid time off, Magpie.

Re: QM - The 80's

Anyway, off to celebrate the start of my holidays with a good long soak in the bathtub. May be going to the street art festival again tomorrow (I already went yesterday, laughing at all those people trudging along just as they always do even when there's music playing everywhere - best friend and I skipped most of the way along the main street) if it's not raining, and then I have to find a birthday present for my gran when we visit her on Monday... but then, no more plans, no more obligations...
