Because you guys are pretty much family :D
- I figured here's a good place to make an announcement.
Most of the people I've been close to here have known for a while that I've finally managed, after a *terrible* marriage, to make a relationship work for a little while now. My girlfriend Joy (emokideeyore here on the boards) and I have been together for almost three years now, and have cohabitatetateded (how many syllables /does/ that word have?) for nearly two of them. We're in the process of buying an adorable home, the first, really, for both of us, and at risk of jinxing things, we look like we might be okay.
So a few days ago, I asked her to marry me, and she accepted.
We're planning to be married in the spring of 2012, provided a.) the world hasn't blown up, and b.) it's still legal /somewhere/ in the US. Maybe by then NC will recognize it and we can file our taxes together, too, won't that be a gem?
So, anyway. There you have it. I swore I'd never do it again and apparently I was lying through my teeth xD

Re: Because you guys are pretty much family :D
My most sincere and warm congratulations to the both of you. :) I'll lift a glass to the both of you tonight, and another to the wish that things in the USA might soon be heading in a direction where the concept of your marriage would be the most normal thing in the world. (As opposed to the fact of the marriage itself, which will undoubtedly remain the most special thing in the world for the both of you *g*)
Also, the Netherlands are gorgeous in spring. Y'know, in case you are pondering a honeymoon and don't know where to go. Just saying... ^_^

Congratulations Miiru and emokideeyore!!!!! *glitters & champagnes*
You are a stronger woman than I. After my divorce, I too said 'never again'. Bf and I just hit the 7 year mark, but I still can't bring myself to do the marriage thing again.

Mondo congrats! I, too, shall hope the US catches up with reality and does the right thing.

Wow, congratulations! Wishing you much happiness together!
I'm also hoping that it will not only be legal, but entirely normal by then.
(Also, it's funny how often the topic of weddings is coming up recently. I want to say, "but there will have to be pizza", but that's an in-joke between my best friend and me...)

I'm just a little ol' newbie here, but my sincerest congratulations to the both of you! I wish you the best of luck in acquiring your new place, and in all future endeavours~
You've got my support in wishing people would get their act together about the marriage issue, too. It also applies to me — I'm bisexual, so I've been following these laws for a while now. (It's been pretty crazy in California, what with the whole Proposition 8 thing, but that's another thread entirely.)
Congratulations again! That's such great news. :-D

Congratulations for you both!!!
And I wish you that, even with the question of the legalization of marriage, you will enjoy each other for many years!!

Re: Because you guys are pretty much family :D
Thanks much, you lot! :D
We can /get/ married in DC right now, and in New York (I think); the trouble is that not only is it not legal to get married in NC, but NC won't recognize marriages performed elsewhere. So irritating. I think the change is coming, it's just going to be slow in arriving. The old guard hasn't quite let go yet, alas.
I'm terribly excited, and more than a little apprehensive- there are reasons I said I'd never get married again, and while I'm getting better, I'm still more than a little mired in old habits and vague neuroses xD It's a leap. But I think it's the right one.

HEAR HERE for my, 99%, home state! Things like that here are always surprisingly in-the-center, or equal parts of both extremes, in the political sphere. So I'm always optimistic for progress in such things!
Congratulations all the same! :D

Congrats Miiru and Emokideeyore!
(And not only is Holland pretty in spring, there is also the thing that same-sex marriage is legal here. No clue if you can actually come here to get married though.)

Hopefully we'll live to see that world where all of this talk about where people can & can't get married is irrelevant. Same -sex marriage is legal in Alberta as well, which is surprising, considering how redneck and conservative this province can be.

What a wonderful thing. I love weddings. Actually looked into becoming the local marriage commissioner when the job came up.
Here's to hoping that a) the world doesn't blow up before then and b) it's legal by then. :)
And here's to an eternity of happy. :)

Re: Because you guys are pretty much family :D
Thank you thank you, my darlings. :D Nothing concretely planned beyond the 'so you wanna?' 'sure!' portion of the program, but I'll keep this place updated as we get things worked out/order the cake/nail the bridesmaids' feet to the floor so they don't escape.

The last person who made me a bridesmaid tried to do that, and I ended up going head over teakettle at the rehearsal! Needless to say I learned my lesson.
