Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

First M$ let's you spend years to get to know their software. And then they suddenly decide that most of their users are dummies and radically change their software so that all the expert users are suddenly rendered useless. Good marketing strategy.

They also sell corporate training for the aforementioned software.

I've never known anybody who'd had corporate training in MS Office...

It's a racket. M$ has an effective monopoly, although not a literal one, so no one can do anything about it.

Re: QM - Let's Go Hunting!

Evil, evil program. I just spent 20 minutes looking for a feature that was easily located in Word 2003. In fact, when you started a form, the feature appeared on a toolbar that appeared like magic!!! Now, you've got to hunt it down. And it is not on the "legacy tools" on the Developer Ribbon. I had to research the issue on the web to find the answer!!!!

Re: QM - Let's Go Hunting!

And don't even get me started on AutoText entries -- which no longer exist on Word 2007. They're called "Building Blocks" now, and don't automatically pop in when you type the name of the entry. You have to push F3 after typing the name of the entry.

The firm's in lots of trouble when they push this program out!

I'm just saying.

I'd say, just install OO (secretly) and save your documents as word files. ;)

MS Office 2007 was foisted upon our office last year.  I HATE that frikkin' ribbon, what an utter waste of screen space.  First thing I did was figure out how to get rid of it and customize the tool bar so it looks just like 2003.

I've been madly customizing it. Haven't gotten to the point of getting rid of the ribbon, but I'm close ... what did you do, Cyan? I've seen some third party software.

Luckily, I found out all the code I had written for 2003 Excel would still run on 2007 -- it was an issue of 2007 handling security a bit different than 2003.

Word -- the templates and forms I created in 2003 still work, however, the auto text feature is gone -- and I had to re-create them in Building Blocks.

Someday will find you.

Re: QM - Let's Go Hunting!

Weekend, finally. My brain is so fried.

*giggling at self*
I'd thought I had all of € 60 left to spend this month. Turned out, I'd just written down a wrong number (195 instead of 1.95) somewhere, so I have quite a lot more than that left. The till (where I do not have to enter the point) is messing with my brain big time. I can hardly use a calculator any more.

Re: QM - Let's Go Hunting!

Think I'll get food if I sit on the kitchen floor and scream, "miaow! Miaow! Miaow!" for half an hour? Cat seems to think it'll work.

But I guess I gotta make my dinner myself. Bah.

Re: QM - Let's Go Hunting!

Yay for holidays!

It'll be a while longer until I can even think of taking time off - this week was rather calm, but I expect it won't be long until the crazy-business returns and gets worse, and worse, and worse.

Re: QM - Let's Go Hunting!

I'm taking a couple days in May to go down to DisneyWorld (again). Then, we're planning a trip in September to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

Re: QM - Let's Go Hunting!

Don't make me jealous - I'd love to go somewhere in May (spring always makes me want to travel), but there's just no way I'd be able to get away from work.

Trying to find ways to get rid of some of my duplicate plants. Maybe the people at the gardening forum moot will want some?
