Re: QM - The Pine Forest
I decided "The 300" could simmer, and instead went for a haircut and watched "Munich" from Ye Olde Netflix.
The Deutsche-file in me wants to correct the credits. "München, people, München!"

Mwahahaha!
I has new lowepro camera backpack, a new tripod and some binoculars. I love tax returns!
But, seeing as I have no internets on my pc at the moment I can't show any pictures of how incredibly awesome the setup is. Trust me, it is truly awesome!

Re: QM - The Pine Forest
I must say I do like your pictures! We've gone with fairly light-weight digital cameras lately and while the quality is fantastic, there's something that more professional cameras (SLRs, etc.) have that make a big difference.
But I suppose the difference could be that I'm trying to snap a funny picture of us trainhopping through Europe (for super fun, try catching the Frankfurt->Berlin on Friday at 4 p.m. w/o reservations!) and aren't thinking about lighting, exposure, etc.

Re: QM - The Pine Forest
Back fromt the dearest relatives, which were surprisingly tolerable. Mostly because I sat with the cousins and cousins of cousins during the garden party. I also saw a fox up close, but that totally does not beat having my hands licked by a wolf-dog. And swimming in the lake was lovely.

I saw a fox this morning (about 10) while I was driving back from the Farmer's Market. Strange it was out and about that late in the morning, and on a busy road. It had something in its mouth - a rodent, I think.

Also, I was subjected to a horrible music show thingy today (watching TV with the grandparents) which made me wish very strongly to return to Castlefest. *flees to youtube instead*

Back from an afternoon at the beach and the parents. Dinner was freshly fried, freshly caught shrimp.
Yum-o!

Re: QM - The Pine Forest
I had foxes living in the woods behind my apartment in Baltimore. Coming home one night, I saw one sitting politely by the street signpost with its tail curled around its feet, waiting for me to cross the street and go away so it could do the same and go down to the gully. I didn't realize what it was at first until it stood up and started trotting - it obviously wasn't a cat, but the wrong shape for a dog.
We have foxes here as well, and unfortunately a rabid one bit someone about half a mile away from here several months ago very close to the route I take to work, so I keep an eye out for them while walking, especially before sunrise and after sunset.
Yield to temptation; it may not pass your way again.

Re: QM - The Pine Forest
Had a lovely day yesterday. Totally sunburned on the arms now. We went hiking through the dunes, my longest hike ever (29km). Feel surprisingly unsore today. Unfortunately the battery in my catcam turned out to be dead. So no pictures. :(

thanks for the compliment! Professional gear does make a huge difference in the quality of the images you shoot but at the end of the day the most important thing is the person behind the camera. The nest camera there is is the one you have with you at the time. There's some guy on the net who has a website with pictures he's taken with his iPhone and the images are fantastic even though the camera in the iPhone is utterly terrible!

Me, too. Waiting for the house to wake up.

Re: QM - The Pine Forest
And I totally will go and do that hike again. It's just that I won't have any time in the foreseeable future. Next weekend is folkwoods, and after that is the weekend we will have to pack for the actual hiking holiday. And then there's three weeks of holiday. And after that, who knows.

*updating travelogue*
I'm feeling a little down about the year thus far. Too much work, too little travel, the months are just checking themselves off. Sigh! We did settle last night at a local bar and down a few pints, which was enjoyable. The dog days of summer must be getting to me - today is the 50th day over 100 degrees F. Leave us alone already!

Ya gotta love Summer in the South, cyenti. We're heading in to peak Hurricane Season in September. September and October can be pretty worrisome here in the Low Country.
Someday will find you.
