Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Re: QM - The pink stables

hosting my daughter's 11th birthday.

A much more restful party than some of the ones in the past.  There's four of them, and they're playing video games.  Not much parental intervention needed - 'cept to keep the junk food coming.
But they're loud.......very loud..heh.

..and then one day you find, ten years have got behind you,
no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun..

*pounceyhugglesofdooom*

Trainingness was lots of fun. I learnt to navigate, fire strip and clean an f88 (assault rifle) and f89 (light 'machine gun'), bayonet training, grenade launcher attatchment and several other things that I can'r quite remember right now.

I went without beer, coke, chocolate, pizza, coke, hamburgers, coke, music and decent coffee for two months so the first of all of those have been really, really bloody good ;)

What can I say. I had to live of instant. It was rough, cyan, it was rough. There were times when I really didn't think I'd make it. A kid named steve actually died. But we pulled together and overcame and I think I'm a better man because of it.

And this next latte is for you, steve. *tips hat*

... and I tip my hat to you, Genisis!  Clearly, you are a better man than I, under those improperly-caffeinated circumstances.

So, the asthma thing wasn't a problem?  How was it really?  Besides the firing large weapons thing, I mean.

Re: QM - The pink stables

Nah, the asthma thing was okay. They got all the paperwork and whatnot and all was good.

It really was alot of fun. Sure, the waking up at 6am and having to shave, make beds, and get ready in 15 minutes sucked a fair bit but for the most part it was really good. Not at all like full metal jacket. We had a surprising amount of spare time because the schedule was fairly laid back compared to what I was expecting. We only spent two days out field away from barracks, it would have been nice to spend a few more days outside but that's not too bad.

A significant proportion of it was lessons. We'd have pt in the morning for two or so hours and then theory lessons until about 9pm most days. Most of it was very basic stuff. The navigation exercises were fun though. We spent the afternoon and part of the night wandering around with map and compass finding places.

Re: QM - The pink stables

Hahaha! I asked Mama to buy one of these patch thingies that can be ironed on for one of my work trousers that I tore a hole in climing through the attic window back at our house, and she bought me one with a zebra on a pink Z. It's so perfect!

I'm bored as well. But, that said, I want to get done today:

Homework
50 photos scanned

If I can get some housework done, too, that will be a plus.

Re: QM - The pink stables

I should go visit my granddad, but it is so cold and wet outside I don't want to leave the house again (I already had to do some shopping earlier, and that was quite enough. I saw snowdrops, though.)

Re: QM - The pink stables

I hate, hate, hate this multiple choice test! If the question is "what part of a plant do NOT contain cells that can be used for tissue culture?", the right answer is ticking the parts that can't be used (namely, petals and pollen). But no, this stupid test wants me to tick the parts that CAN be used!
How stupid is that?!

And that's not the only question of this sort. And let's not even talk about the spelling mistakes and outdated botanical names. I mean, I won't fail because of that crap, but if I only get 23 out of 30 at the exam because of such stupid questions, I'll have to have a word with ...someone. Dunno who, but someone must be responsible.

Re: QM - The pink stables

I think I'm off to bed. My head feels like it's stuffed with cotton wool, and seeing how little I've done today, I really shouldn't waste any more time.
OK, not really today, I've actually been busy practising today, but did almost nothing yesterday. Midnight is so confusing.

Maen mint.

Running ahead of schedule. I have all the crap I'm taking back to duntroon in the car already (my tetris skills came in handy fitting that much stuff into a very small car.) and am going to hang around for lunch before I bugger off again.
