Heh. Awesome. They all sound like episodes of "Metalocalypse."
I'd like to see this same scenario played out in different music genres, too.

Re: Headbangers Ballroom
I Must have spent and hour or more last night on youtube tracking down old favorite thrash bands from the alte 80's and early 90's and hunting them down on wiki as well to see what they were up to and was pleasantly suprised to see everyone I looked up was back in action ro still in action; Loudness, Testament (With Alex Skolnick again!), Death Angel and shockingly even Krokus (They even had an unplugged version of "Screaming in the Night"!)! Gooood stuff...cheesy, but good good stuff....8)
Posted some of my favorites up on my LJ including the original video for Screaming in the Night, a suprisingly melodic song for a hair band. Also found a video for testament's "Return to Serenity" which is another suprisingly melodic sound for a thrash band. I like it when bands stretch their limits and still keep to their paradigm. Metallica's Black album was an excellent example, it was a different direction and was still very heavy and crunchy...but then they kept going off in that direction and ran out of their safe zone...8(...I think someone needs to get them pissed off and keep them pisse doff then shove them into the studio while they're pissed off...might actually write somethign worthwhile...

Nah, Metallica jumped the shark. Luckily there's even better stuff out there now, but I'll admit Metallica set the bar for a while there.

Huh, well i see why Youtube is making tons of Dough....just stumbled across a band called "Firewind" I'm betting some of y'all Europe-dwellers have already heard of them. Reminds of the they heyday of great metal/glam-metal...dunno if the guy in the video is the new or old singer but I like his voice a lot and the guitarist shreds pretty damn well...8)

Headbangers should wear neck braces
hehehehehehe. I just love how the biggest threat to our spines is classic hits DJs playing Bohemian Rhapsody. It should be banned!...
Also, if people are wandering around dazed and confused and incoherent at a Metal concert, it's not how they've been moving that's causing it ;)

Re: Headbangers Ballroom
...and what is the supposed "Megadeth" track they play in there? (Interesting that despite the ridiculous warning, the only real metal they play is buried beneath talking). It almost sounds like She-Wolf, but I'm pretty certain it isn't. I can't find anything else even close though.
and of course, if he was actually doing any serious headbanging to that small intro snippet we heard, then he was most definitely doin it wrong anyway....bah! Journalists! Next they'll be misrepresenting science or computers!

Heard from somewhere that the new Metallica was back to their old (good) form. Well, it isn't . It sucks. In related news, the new Guns N Roses isn't too bad.

This one is on us..
this one is on us
On 5th May, 2008, Nine Inch Nails released their latest album, The Slip, free, online, as a gift to their fans. Or as Trent put it: "This one's on me".
On December 13th, 2008, dozens of Nine Inch Nails fans recorded the last show in the Lights In The Sky tour at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas.
On January 7th, 2009, over 400Gb of video from the Victoria, Portland and Sacramento shows was unofficially released by the band.
By working together, we're creating a DVD to document these shows that will be released free online, followed by a physical release. This one is on us. Our time. Our effort. Our gift to all NIN fans.

Oh, lovely...
The new Moonspell, Night Eternal is just gorgeous. I finally got it. Finally.
Oh, I also just heard that Tyr has a new album coming out the year. Heri says it should be out in April but that seems awfully soon, as they're just finished recording. Now I just need to save up my money to buy it. :) Um, it will be called By the Light of the Northern Star.

Re: Headbangers Ballroom
Okay Bad New first right?
It seems this month is a very black month for Music...
MIIKA TENKULA died aged 35, he was the Lead Guitarist of Sentenced (19.02.09) Lux Interior , The Cramps died aged 62 (4.2.09) Sebastian Hackert, Deichkind died aged 32 (21.2.09)
It´s really really sad to lose those artists *lights 3 candles*
on to the Good News:
Jane´s Addiction seem to be back! yay! and we´re talking about the original band line-up! YEEESSS! nin.com Photoblock and janesaddiction. com revealed that the Guys were in the Studio with Trent Reznor(as Producer). There is an intressting Blog Post by Eric on Janes Site and of course lots and lots of rumours on xiola :-)
Janes played a Show at the Echoplex Vids/Review can be found on Pitchfork: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/f … -addiction
There will be a nice looking Box Set: http://www.amazon.com/Cabinet-Curiositi … amp;sr=1-2
and a NIN+JA Tour The Dates arent out yet (and I pray for some European Dates but I fear that might not happen)
I really hope there will be some new Jane´s Material too but I guess we´ll have to be patient if the guys manage to get along *Hopes* I´d love to have some new "oldschool" Janes. I mean yes Strays wasnt all that bad, it was "ok" but we know that they can do a lot better.
If you happen to like ambient/electronic whatever-you-like-to-call-it music I can recomend Blindoldfreak´s "1". Alessandro Cortini and his Buchla *g* http://www.lastfm.de/music/Blindoldfreak My Fave is "Pipe one" http://blindoldfreak.com/
well what else?
I´m having a hard trying to find "new" music I like. Most stuff sounds like something i allready have in my Cd Collection 3x or more... Gets a bit boring
BUT I finally discovered that I do like David Bowie (yay for me!) So far I got: Heroes, Low, Diamond Dogs, Ziggy Stardust, Reality and Earthling. Oh and the Reality Tour DvD (really good and really cheap!)
There´s a free and intressting/fun remix of Ziggy Stardust : http://www.ziggyremixed.com/
Found it via tonspion.de, they collect free legal mp3 downloads so you might want to check it out for some music even if you don´t speak german :-)
That´s it I guess

Re: Headbangers Ballroom
Hello fellow lovers of the louder kinds of music!!
This week I have enjoyed two new albums. First of all the new Redemption (Snowfall on Judgement Day). Gorgeous! Second there was the new Epica (Design Your Universe). Love it!
On the agenda the coming months: This Tuesday Deep Purple. I have never seen them live before, but it's the music I grew up with. I'm looking forward to that.
Next up is Machine Head next February. I received the ticket for my birthday and I'm stoked about seeing these guys again. February can't come soon enough!

Re: Headbangers Ballroom
Oh hey, forgot about this topic.
So back in October, I took a trip to the Netherlands for the purpose of going to ProgPower Europe, an annual festival near Venlo. It had Evergrey and Mercenary headlining, the main reasons why I went, but also bands like Seventh Wonder, Andromeda, Cloudscape, etc. I didn't actually make it TO the festival due to being in the hospital all weekend.
I was sad to miss the festival, but at least I did get to see a show while I was over there: a couple of friends and I went to see Damian Wilson of Threshold, do some of his solo material with guest musicians (like Kristoffer Gildenlow, who was in Pain of Salvation) at De Boerderij in Zoetermeer. Very good show, they played for over two hours. Anthony Arjen Lucassen of Ayreon fame was in the audience, saw him a couple of times although he wouldn't go up on stage.
I love seeing shows when I'm in Europe...

I saw Juliette Lewis a week ago and it was frickin' awesome, very energetic show, although i didn't like the new songs as much as i like her older stuff, i had a pretty good time.
the concert i've been looking forward to for ages(literally, wanted to see them since i was about 13 but never had the chance) is Skunk Anansie. and it's tomorrow. and i have my ticket right here and i CAN'T WAIT!!!! *bounces*

Re: Headbangers Ballroom
@Jaime: I'm sorry to hear you didn't make it to ProgPower. The lineup was great. I didn't go myself, because Venlo is just too far away, but I would have loved to see Evergrey and Seventh Wonder. They are both bands I love.
Other prog bands I listen to are Pain of Salvation, Redemption, Ayreon, Guilt Machine (the new Arjen Lucassen project), Frost, Dream Theater and Opeth. The last two I got to see live a couple of weeks ago. Simply awesome, both of them.
@sisterdew: I met Skin once. I was at a Robby Williams concert (don't ask!) a couple of years ago and she did a support act. During the main act she suddenly stood next to me and we had a little chat. She's a cool person. Have fun tomorrow!
Did I mention getting to see Deep Purple tomorrow? Not happening. I've come down with the flu. Darn! At least I was able to sell my ticket, so I didn't lose any money over it, but I'm really bummed about not going. It might be the last tour they do.

@Tourmaline - Come on, it's the Netherlands, nothing's more than a few hours away in that country. ;) I'm an old-school and strictly an old-school Dream Theater fan; I haven't reeeeeally liked anything they've done since SFAM. Love Pain of Salvation. Love Amorphis - missed them at PPUSA year before this one, and wanted to see them at Biebob while I was in Amsterdam, but couldn't make the show. I listened to Guilt Machine in the car with my friend, but the trouble with Ayreon is so much of it sounds the same - he uses a lot of the same musicians, a lot of the same musical themes. Human Equation and Space Metal are really all anyone needs of the collection!

I really don't have any business being in this thread, since I have pretty much no idea what you are talking about, but I just have to say it again: Smarchers are totally to blame for my skewed sense of distance. My friends always look at me very strangely when I tell them "such-and-such is not really very far away".

About the distance between my town and Venlo...it is too far away when you're depending on public transport. But hey, if you make it to Holland for next years edition we'll go together. How's that? ;-)
I love Amorphis too. I missed their show in Biebob due to work. Grrrr! I would love to see them live. Pain of Salvation is one of the best bands I know. Do you know/have that last DVD they've put out? The one they filmed at Paradiso in Amsterdam? I was actually at that show. Such good memories!
@sisterdew: Thanks! I'm kinda there though now. Friends of mine are at the concert right now and they keep texting me about which song Deep Purple is playing. I then play evry song on my laptop. Doesn't beat seeing them live though.

I won't be there next year - PPUSA and PPEurope always happen within three weeks of each other, and I really can't afford to do both. The last couple PPUSAs haven't had any bands I want to see, which is why I went over this past year. This year's a little different. I'm sure I'll be back to the Netherlands sometime in the next couple years though, maybe in 2011 once I get out from under the medical debt.
I do have that PoS DVD. It's fascinating to watch - Daniel is such a *weedy* guy, it's amazing how much voice comes out of that narrow little chest. I've only seen them live once, sadly - I missed the other two PPUSAs at which they performed, and I had wanted to go to the PP Scandinavia show they were at last year, but the airfare was way too expensive.

Re: Headbangers Ballroom
Skunk Anansie was. simply. frigging. AWESOME. i'm still glowing with joy and happiness. they played for nearly two hours, all their great songs(obivously leaving some out, but my favourites were there) and a few new songs as well. Skin did some crowd-surfing and singing while standing on people's hands, and one time i was the very lucky person that steadied her- holding hands!!!*squeeeee*
so yeah, a dream come true and possibly the best concert i've ever seen. i mean, there were a few pretty good ones recently( Meshuggah and DevilDriver), but not that good. seriously.
