Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

"This is Ryan Seacrest on location of the latest human-disappearance-dust-bunny incident with a witness of the occurance!  Folks, you won't believe this!  I'll be back to tell you all about it, right after this commercial break."  [HEERE Corporation commercial]

Re: QM - The Room with a View

I was talking to my mother earlier and complaining about how tired I was, and she asked, "Are you taking iron pills?" No, I'm not, and my iron levels get low really easily.

Mothers are very useful.

Re: QM - The Room with a View

"Hi folks, this is Ryan Seacrest, here with an eyewitness account of the dust bunnies attacking. So, is it really true, Mr. Williams? Did you see the attack? Is there a connection?"

"Call me Tad, Ryan. But yes, I saw it. With my own eyes!"

"Tell us what you saw, Tad."

"Well, my wife was reading a story with the children, and I was alone in the room with the victim - I mean, the chihuahua.... " <chokes up>

<Ryan puts hand consolingly on shoulder> "It's okay, man. It's okay. Just... whenever you're ready."

"Well, he let out this little... whimper... and I turned to see what he was on about this time, and he was gone. He just vanished into thin air."

"And that's when you looked under the bed?"

"That's right, Ryan. And that's when I saw them. They were full of a sentience, a presence of being I had never witnessed before.... I felt their malice.

"No one is safe, Ryan. No one."

Moms are good for that.  I'm prone to iron deficiency as well as complex B vitamin deficiency.  My mom happens to think the cure is for me to Eat More.

My mom thinks I'm too fat.

I'm finding out part of my eating disorder comes from her.

Mmm, and then she probably cooks for you, too? Nice!

My mom is a big pill person. She will always go to pills first.

Oh my God! There is something that would be fabulously awful about getting Tad and Ryan Seacrest into a room together.

Oh yes, mom SOOO cooks!  I could do without the advice-to-a-five-year-old sort of comments.  But then I've come to understand that moms to that regardless of what age you happen to be.  So.  Yeah.  Mom Rocks.

You're lucky. My mom is ... well, I was talk "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

*says nothing*

Re: QM - The Room with a View

I did an improv workshop with ComedySportz when I was about 25, and that helped me to see things in a different way, how to build on a conversation, with the reality that's presented you. The whole, "Yes, and..." concept.

I'm better at it when other people are involved, though. I do get stuck a lot in my own writing. Kinda in a stuck phase on my book now.....

Re: QM - The Room with a View

I get stuck in the mechanics of writing -- spelling, punctuation, etc. -- and lose the flow of the story.

Re: QM - The Room with a View

I've come to discover that my main writing block is transition.  As in, moving from one idea or scene to another.  I think of it in terms of clothing-making/designing vs. writing or representation of a story or idea.
