Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Loving your blog! It's introduced me to too many good comics.

Re: A Forum 9 Trustee Territory (Rook & Aan`allein)

Thanks, Sahi!  I'm glad I'm doing somebody some good in this world. :)

Incidentally, I got a  couple of comments on my blog from the author of "Edgar Allan Poo."  He reveals that the title came from his 7-year old (and his two other children).  Man ... I should have known.  He also mentions that the comic was meant as a gateway for young children to start reading classic literature.  (And he claims that it's worked!)

That makes him a good egg in my book.

Just posted my latest review of the RPG-themed webcomic, Erfworld.  Hope the intro makes folks around these parts happy. :)

Re: A Forum 9 Trustee Territory (Rook & Aan`allein)

I guess I should update this thread, eh?  I did two articles on a dude known as Bleedman.  He's apparently one of the biggest draws in wecomicdom... at least if you're the kind of person who likes reading manga.   Most of his comics are doujinshi (which is basically fanfic done Japanese style).  Check out the review of Powerpuff Girls Doujinshi on my site and his original work Sugar Bits on ComixTalk.  One of my readers also brought my attention to a Grim & Mandy doujinshi out there, which he tells me is a total train-wreck.  Well, since the premise is "Grim & Mandy get married & have kids," I don't doubt him for a single moment.

I also did a review of a journal-style comic done in abstract form called Silly Daddy.  The author, Joe Chiappetta, was nominated for several awards back when the comic saw print publication in the 90's, and he's continued his work on the web.  The art takes a while to get used to, but as far as autobiographical comics go, I feel it's one of the most honest.

Re: A Forum 9 Trustee Territory (Rook & Aan`allein)

OK, seriously, how come no one told me that the song "The Prayer," from Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, was from the movie "Quest for Camelot"?  And that it was played during some sort of chase scene?

I want to know because my fiancee apparently wanted her friend to sing this at the wedding.  What's worse, she actually knew about the origins.  It's an okay song, but now that I know its origins how do I prevent snickering when the song is up?  I'm doomed!

Well, haven't freshened up this neighborhood in a while, but I thought I'd share the lastest posting on my webcomics blog:

Webcomic Overlook's Greatest Trivial Moments of 2008

Mainly because this goofy little list has been getting a small bit of attention in webcomic circles.

As just posted on slashdot:
Harnessing Hamster Power with a Nanogenerator

Finally! I set them to researching that ages ago! It's so hard to find good help as an evil CEO.
Still: Muahahaaa! :D

Wow, I love it. So cute, geeky, and clever -- they'd never gotten that kind of attention with only the finger-tapping. Our late hamsters Sepp and Lutz (bent on world domination themselves) were just the kind shown int he accompanying picture.

...Then again, I'm sure scientific careers are not powered by being slashdotted, heh.

Re: A Forum 9 Trustee Territory (Rook & Aan`allein)

The hamsters are on a roll! Once more quoting from slashdot:

The folks at iRobot apparently have plenty of time on their hands. They created a prototype wireless, robotic vacuum cleaner... powered by a hamster running inside a spinning ball. The rodent's movements with the ball are fed to and analyzed by a complex set of sensors, which then guide the actual vacuum device to mimic the animal's speed and direction.

The video is on youtube.

Muahahahaa!
