Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Worldcon Denver - Aug 6-10 2008

So who's game for another con?  We should get a tentative headcount and start considering where we want to stay, because the reservations open in January (I believe) and we don't want to slack on getting rooms set aside.

Also remember to buy your passes (or get started on a monthly payment) *early*, because it starts at $175 for non-voters and will be nearly $300 by next summer.

i was gonna try to make it the next time it came around (now that i've had a taste of the convention scene and think it's quite yummy) but that's a bit steep :

Well, Mwyaren, if I'm in China at that time, I'll be looking to transfer my membership to someone.

Won't know if I'm in China or not until two months before I go, though.

You can pay monthly, Mer - if you apply when it starts at $175, the price is locked in, and you'll have 6-8 months to pay it off.

Of course, it seems like people are way more interested in Montreal in 2009...

i'm pretty much intending to go, although for some reason my pea brain isn't wanting to plan for it yet. don't ask-it's a known issue in my head that i'm working on.

see, i'm used to the horror con, which is $35 in advance, $55 day of.  $175 will get you through a weekend there if you don't buy anything more than room (with our requisite 5 people, of course), food, pass and transportation lol.

Yeah, the USA has gone way too far with trying to make visitors feel as unwelcome as possible, and I at least have taken the hint.
Plus Montréal is a city that I've always wanted to visit, while Denver gets a "meh..." at best. (Probably completely undeservedly so, but it's just not appealing.)

Re: Worldcon Denver - Aug 6-10 2008

Well it's a bit closer to this Worldcon.  I'm looking over the hotels (the ones that are left).  Anyone in a particular hotel so I hopefully will get to see some Smarchers at some time during the week?

Well, it's a bit too close to the Calgary convention for me to swing.... plus Calgary will have Tad, and WorldCon doesn't this year, does it?

As much as I would like to attend (my brother lives in Denver and I lived there for a while), we'll be getting Chelsea settled into SCAD (hopefully) and traveling then will the out-of-the-question.

I was looking forward to escaping some heat, but it looks like Denver is setting records for high temperatures lately. *gasp*
