Ishmayl's Cast of Characters

I thought I would do one of my own.  I decided I would go with actors that were both talented, as well as had looks that I personally thought of when reading the series.  I have a disclaimer to make about non-humans.  For trolls and sithi, I decided to go with "normal-sized" humans (as opposed to little people or CGI people), with the intentions of using Lord of the Rings-style effects to make them look smaller or more alien.  The reason is because, each time trolls are described, they are described as "child-like", and are not described in a way that makes me think of "Willow" or "Minnie Me."  For the sithi, the two I have chosen are talented actors, small in stature, and I feel they could handle the part.  Most of the list is taken from Kel's, though I took off a couple, and added a couple characters of my own.  Simon, Pryrates, Tiamek, Binabik, and Josua were the hardest for me to choose, but I think I ended up with actors who can do the parts justice.  I also tried to put a quick comment about why I chose particular actors for roles.  Cheers!

Aditu - Claire Danes (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000132/) - Would need to dye her hair, but a slim, pretty, talented actress.
Amerasu - Frances Conroy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0175814/) - Older, but still with an ageless beauty about her, face could be smoothed.
Aspitis - Ryan Gosling (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0331516/) - Young, considered “sexy,” hair looks good blond.
Benegaris - Cillian Murphy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0614165/) - Not sure what age Benegaris is, but I pictured him young, like Aspitis, since they’re friends.
Binabik - Ben Barnes (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1602660/) - Good actor, small-ish, friendly looking
Cadrach - Tracey Walter (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0910145/) - Pudgy, short, has a timit look to him.
Camaris - Ted Levine (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0505971/) - Tall, older (still would need makeup), gruff, thick voice.
Deornoth - Gary Oldman (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000198/) - Very good at playing the brooding role, fabulous method actor.
Dinivan - Dylan Baker (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0048414/) - Wise and knowing, soft-spoken.
Elias - Adam Scott (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004395/) - Has a dark look about him, possibly slightly young, but that could be remedied.
Eolair - Hugh O’Conor (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0640560/) - Good actor, dark hair, youngish, Irish, shorter than Rachel Griffiths.
Fengbald - Rufus Sewell (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001722/) - Perfect cast by Kel.
Geloë - Kathryn Hunter (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0402898/) - Short, older.
Guthwulf - William Peterson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0676973/) - I know, he’s not massive and strong, but he could possibly bulk up a bit.  Great actor.
Ineluki - Deshun Wang (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1708547/) - Just saw “Forbidden Kingdom,” he plays a great evil guy.  We probably woudn’t see Ineluki anyway...
Ingen Jegger - Gerard Butler (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0124930/) - Just seems to fit, after watching 300.
Isgrimnur - M.C. Gainey (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0301370/) - “Mr. Friendly” from Lost; I couldn’t picture anyone else playing this role.
Isorn -  Angus Macfadyen (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005171/) - Good at playing the large, loyal warrior, has good look, maybe not quite tall enough?
Jarnauga - J.K. Simmons (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0799777/) - Older, has a rugged look, tall.
Jeremias - Matthew Lewis (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0507535/) - Neville from the HP movies, good actor, soft-looking.
Jiriki - Jake Gyllenhaal (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0350453/) - Great actor, I have no doubt he could pull it off.
John Presbyter - Jack Palance (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001588/) - Old, frail, but still very powerful.
Josua Lackhand - Christian Kane (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0437283/) - Excellent actor, good small-name for a lead role.  Knows how to use a sword.
Lector Ranneson - Jon Voight (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000685/) - Older, has a wise and distinguished look.
Maegwin - Rachel Griffiths (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0341737/) - Tall, dark hair, not quite as “Hollywood Beautiful” as many others.
Miriamele - Ellen Page (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0680983/) - I could see no other, good choice Keil.
Morgenes - Martin Sheen (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000640/) - Old and short, would need to lose a wee bit of weight.
Pryrates - Joe Pantoliano (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001592/) - This was difficult, but I think he’d pull it off well.
Rachel the Dragon - Carol Kane (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001406/) - Can play stern, strict, mean woman.
Simon - William Moseley (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0608440/) - Another really difficult one, one of the few actors from Narnia that carried himself well.
Sisqi - Ellen Pompeo (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0690186/) - Young and pretty, without being “supermodel-ish”
Skali - Crispin Glover (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000417/) - Evil, slick, scary looking.
Sludig - John C. Reilly (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000604/)  - Just seems to fit, and fabulous actor.  Would need to get into shape.
Streawe - Willem Dafoe (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000353/) - Has a cunning, sneaky look to him, proper age.
Strangyeard - Brent Spiner (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000653/) - Good at playing quirky, about the right age, good “wild” eyes look about him.
Tiamak - Morris Birdyellowhead (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1955464/) - Small, dark, young.
Towser - Michael Gough (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001284/) - Old, small, frail, funny.
Utuk'ku - Sigourney Weaver (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000244/) - Great voice, and tall, which is all you’d need.
Vorzheva - Musetta Vander (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0888727/) - ‘Nuff said..

Re: Ishmayl's Cast of Characters

Aditu needs to be semi exotic. May I suggest Diane Kruger? She has prominent cheek bones, slim physique, haunting eyes, and blond hair that can easily be bleached to white.

Here are some other pics:

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3102120192/nm1208167  <-- Another good one

Re: Ishmayl's Cast of Characters

Here are some other thoughts:

Josua - Eric Bana with a full beard.

Ingen Jegger - Adoni Maropis

Sludig - Sean Bean

Leleth - Elle Fanning

Simon - Awkward, skinny, hunched over: Michael Cera

I have some other ideas but we all know for a movie of this scale, lots of characters from the books will need to be dropped or relegated to small parts. I'm thinking this might apply for characters like Tiamak and Count Streawe.

Orlando Bloom would probably make a good Sitha but you risk being compared to LoTR as a 'me-too' type trilogy.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I love the selections for Vorzheva, Pryrates, Miriamele, Maegwin, Jiriki (needs a good shave though!), and Eolair. But I do think your Deonorth should be younger!

Re: Ishmayl's Cast of Characters

Eric Bana would probably definitely work for Josua, and I like your choice of Leleth as well.  For Sludig, I don't know if I see Sean Bean, but I don't think I like my John C Riley idea anymore either.  I don't know Adoni Maropis (I tried to go with actors/actresses I was familiar with), but he has a good look to him for Jegger.  Never been a fan of Diane Kruger, but I don't know if I really like my Claire Danes idea anymore either!

I could see Streawe (and many others) being downsized (or omitted) a bit, but not Tiamak.  However, I would like to see these books be done as a Sci-fi or HBO series, with each book being given an entire season.

I'm not particularly a fan of Diane Kruger either but I recently saw Troy on TV and thought she looks so exotic and thought to myself, that is what a Sitha woman would look like! She looked stunning in Troy, I think.

On second thought, Tiamak would be worth saving... It's always difficult to adapt a huge body of work like MST to the movie screen.

Edit: For reference, Sean Bean was Boromir in the LoTR.

Re: Ishmayl's Cast of Characters

Didn't want to start another thread.  I love playing this game.  Just did it for Robotech so I thought I'd try it for MS&T.  Got about half way through and saw this thread.  Carol Kane was on my list too!!  I guess she gets it.

Also, I couldn't figure out Binabik.  There was an Inuit movie called Atanarjuat but all the actors are either older or little kids.  I couldn't find an Inuit actor the right age.

Anyway.  Also, I tried to keep them all English actors to avoid having a fantasy full of people trying to sound british, but then it hit me that only maybe the Erkynlanders needed to be British, but Isgrimnur could be Swedish or German, Eolair could be Scottish, Benegaris could be Italian or Greek, etc.

Not complete either...just too big of a list.  No Strangyeard, Binabik, Doernoth, Isorn, blah blah.

Elias - Rufus Sewell
Jikiri - Tahmoh Penikett
Aditu - Lili Sobieski
Isgrimnur - Brian Blessed
Josua - Paul Bettany
Simon - Rupert Grint
Pryrates - Chris Eccleston
Geloe - Caroline Goodall
Miriamelle - Georgia Moffett
Morganes - Bill Nighy
Eolair - Jason Issacs
Maegwin - Kate Winslet
Rachel - Carol Kane
Guthwulf - Christopher Cazenove
Camaris - Patrick Bergin
Amerasu - Hellen Mirren
Vorzheva - Minnie Driver
Aspitis - James Marsters
Cadrach/Paedric - Tom Wilkinson
Benegaris - Daniel Craig
Tiamak - Corbin Bleu

If Terry Goodkinds Wizards First Rule series is a hit, how long do you think it will take for a deal to get done for MST ......about 5 mins IMO.

Re: Ishmayl's Cast of Characters

Very much unfortunately, I believe SoT is much more popular in the mainstream than MST... which is just a darn shame, considering how unoriginal and uninspiring Goodkind's books are compared to Williams.'  :(

As much as I like Walken, he's way to old for Jiriki.  And I could see Tilda playing their mother  (name escapes me.)

OMG, I threw up in my mouth a little just now. :P Can you picture Tilda doing a flip off a wall on Sesuadra? Yeah I thought so ;)

Also, Walken != graceful. He might make a good Towser with a beard and all.

Walken on SNL this year. What a disaster , lol. Link

Re: Ishmayl's Cast of Characters

Id like to say first that your list is impresive ive seen many lists of actors for MST movies but none that was well thought. I agreed with many of your choices and even some i had for a long time had them on my own list. At first i was scepticle of Ben Barnes for Binibik, however a second look i had to agree. I think the troll easpicially Binibik would be the hardest and most important part of any movie they did, Binibik is such a beloved charecter, and in my mind the trolls have such unique look that im not is possible to create.

William Moseley is one of the ones ive had on my own list for awhile. With red hair he would do good. Simon is definetly a very hard one.

Miriamele was perhaps the one i reacted the most too, i had never thought of Ellen Page but the moment i look i myself a fool. I had always pictured Alexis Bledel for Mariamele, however because of you Ellen Page has stolen first palce from her. As she is a amazing actress looks the part and is a fellow Nova Scotian.

Re: Ishmayl's Cast of Characters

like a lot of your choices ... some thoughts

surprised that Skandar Keynes hasn't been suggested for Simon. (ed in narnia)

Saiorse Ronan for Miriamele (right age, talented, perfect looks. in city of ember and lovely bones)

dougray scott for Elias.
James Frain (the tudors) for Josua.
Zuleikha Robinson (Lost, Rome, The Lone Gunman) for Vorzheva
Zoey Wannamaker as Geloe (in HP1 as the quidditch coach, can't remember the name for some reason, lead in my family, but she's an accomplished shakespearean and classic actress, her electra is still talked about).
Kevin McKidd (rome, Journeyman) as Deornoth
Vera Farmiga as Maegwin (roar, Touching evil, manchurian candidate)
Titus Welliver (Deadwood, Esau on Lost) as Guthwulf
Miriam Margolies (madame sprout in HP) as Rachel
Shave Jeffrey Donavan's (burn notice) for Pryrates. There's something wicked in those eyes, you know it's true.
Brian Cox (x2, manhunter, Deadwood) as Isgrimner.

and i kind of like the idea of a heavily made-up Minnie Driver as Uttukku, because she can bring the crazy and has the right voice, I think. ymmv.

really, realy stuck on binabik and sisqi. you could do the lotr shrinking theng and use Ken Leung, which would be cool.

Re: Ishmayl's Cast of Characters

For Geloe I was actually thinking Sarah Jessica Parker she fits the in book description perfectly just about.

http://cdn.sheknows.com/realitytvmagazi … series.jpg

With some age lines and make up you have a perfect Geloe
