Re: Facebook
I find it interesting on the Movie Compatibility Report, the people I matched best with (*waves at Cyan*) we matched because of what we are not interested in seeing, not what we have seen and agreed up.
Silly test.

Don't let appearances fool you, there's always only one reality. 1Q84, Haruki Murakami.

Re: Facebook
Yeh that test is really dumb. Most of the (more obscure by their standards) movies I've seen and adore are not on it. I'm not really that mainstream when it comes to movies.

Re: Facebook
The music compatibility test is pretty useless too. There was only one album on it I had actually listened to, and it wasn't really indicative of my musical tastes.
Though I guess I could have given answers for the classical ones...

Ditto re: the musical compatibility test. Again, far too mainstream for me.

I just made a "S'marchers Unite!" group. I'll prolly hand over the reins to whoever wants it because my main purpose was just to make the group so there'd be a S'marchly presence of sorts.

Ok. I left and rejoined the group on Sunday because I wanted to remove myself from the top of the admin list as "Creator" which sets me up as "owner" of the group - which I don't want, as the group belongs to everyone equally. However, I'd appreciate if one of you already in the group would admin me so I can help maintain the front page as and when we get a better description/avatar etc.
Just a head's up. Thanks.

Re: Facebook
Thanks hon!
The officer section is diff from the admin section though, if you can go to members section you can see "make admin" - unless I've screwed that up by leaving as "Creator. You kinda need that to make changes.
Oh dear, I really should have talked it over with you all before I did it!

Re: Facebook
Have any of you with GRR Martin listed in your interests been getting a friends request from someone called Robb Stark? There's no info in his profile other than "Winterfell." I've declined twice now.

Re: Facebook
I have a mysapce page, I never check it and would probably delete it if I know how. Problem I have is that it's not terribly private thoguh I guess it's smarter to not post anything even in the private section as anythingis hackable these days as has been proven...8P
Also I don't like the idea of a website the encourages continuation of the high-school mentality of the "popularity contest" into the adult world...8P

Re: Facebook
Actually...I quite enjoy facebook. I have used it for a few weeks now, and suddenly I am staying in contact with people I have travelled with for only a short time, which is great. I know what (some of) my friends are doing and can see their latest pictures. Living in Taiwan, far away from home, it proves to be quite a good tool to stay in contact, as I am usually too lazy to send a million emails to everyone.
I am not concerned at all about internet security. It is much too late for that already. All my data are already up there somewhere (ever since I set up my website in 2001), you can probably find out about my favourite food or when I had the last diarrhoea in a heartbeat. But I told my friends who join now, just to enter the most basic information in their profile on facebook. I just keep on telling myself, I have nothing to hide. I rather enjoy the recommendations from amazon (the only place where I can get books I want here in Taiwan), I do online banking, I use my credit card online a lot, I am a member of many forums, I have logged into google to get my igoogle startup page (to read my horoscope every day, I confess, and see the weather forecast). I cannot live without this stuff anymore. It is my only connection to the world up here in the jungle. However, I have about 10 email accounts and several nicks (yes, even a male one) for certain forums. So...I am already beyond any help... sigh.

Re: Facebook
What Jade said. I am already too visible to become unvisible and to cover my trace since 1997 would be close to impossible. My rule of thumb is to not put any information on facebook that doesn't already reside elsewhere. And since I natter on about books/music everywhere else, there's really not that big a diff. I use my pen name (this one) on facebook, and that's already google-able to a ridiculous degree.

Re: Facebook
Just a note about Facebook, folks: they have updated their privacy settings so you can actually filter what news/stories get shown on the minifeeds. Also, you can dictate what information gets shared with applications. Also, learn to use the limited profile settings if you need to. I know some of you know this, but for those of you who don't, I strongly urge you to explore your privacy settings.
