Pilgrim vs. Member?
Some of the new members of the board show up as "Pilgrims" while others are "Members". What's the difference? Why do some users rank as "Members" while others are "Pilgrims"? You can see what I mean here.
A list of all the Hierarchs is at http://www.tadwilliams.com:9080/bbs/use … rch=Submit .
A list of all the Mantii is at http://www.tadwilliams.com:9080/bbs/use … rch=Submit .
A list of all the Pilgrims is at http://www.tadwilliams.com:9080/bbs/use … rch=Submit .
There is apparently no list of Members. It's not on the drop-down menu, and I even checked if there was a "Group 9"! There isn't one. Is this another Easter egg like the Place Which Does Not Exist? The People Who Do Not Exist!
Canadian Cordelia, Cleburne, Trickywolf, nerdgirlnv157, lisa_41, and Kiki the old san (new account for Kiki, I assume) are the only Members.
Also: did some people get demoted from Mantis-and-Hierarch-hood? I seem to remember the Smarch lists of The High Ones as more robust.

Re: Pilgrim vs. Member?
I have no idea why "Member" is showing up again for some of these new accounts. It should not even be an option any more. The default group is Pilgrim, and Member is not even a choice within the Administration area any more. When I checked Canadian Cordelia's actual account, it told me she was in the Pilgrim group -- but looking at the user list, Member appeared. Going back to her user acct, I left Pilgrim selected, hit 'save' and voila, her group level now shows as Pilgrim. I left the others as-is in case Aan wants to have a look around. Definitely a bug, but not one I know how to locate or fix. All the settings that I can get to are set properly.
& yes, as for some mantises and hierarchs not staying such, we were concerned about those who had not posted or been in touch for a very long time; leaving them with mod or admin abilities if they were truly inactive could leave the account open to much board mischief if someone were to figure out the acct wasn't being monitored. (So not a "demotion" as some might think -- all the wrong connotations there. It was for security reasons.) Frex, Karawynn -- the designer for the Shadowmarch boards -- was a Hierarch, but rarely posted & as far as I know, never interacted on a hierarch basis except perhaps in the very beginning. Her account was xferred but as pilgrim now. Same with Guth. Neither were involved in the new site development either (whereas Matt & redNat were in the beginning, though schedule conflicts became a problem later). For mantises, there were 4 - raj, lib, nolan, joshua. I've since seen nolan and joshua/kianor here & posting a bit. We can change them back certainly if they want it and are going to hang out/stay involved.

Re: Pilgrim vs. Member?
When I first saw the title of the thread I had a brief spark of quasi-creativity tell me, hey, are all those who came over from the last board called "Pilgrim" and any new sign-ups "Member"? But apparently it's just a bug. Sniffle.

Re: Pilgrim vs. Member?
Gaah! I thought I'd squashed this, with it being an effect of the unused "ranks" feature. Guess I thought wrong there. Hmm, at a hunch I'd say the Members are those who have registered, but haven't followed the validation link in the email they get upon registration. If so, that's a bug in punbb. I'll do some testing later this week (Friday probably), and will report a bug with punbb if this turns out to be the case.

For a short while, I thought that, too, Dread. Then I realized there weren't enough of the latter, and too many of the former... and they were intermixed: some new accounts are Pilgrims, and some are Members. All the old accounts are Pilgrims, though (except obviously the ones which are Mantii or Hierarchs).
It's sort of a strange bug, but at least there's no serious harm, and our uber-efficient Hierarchs are on the case, so I guess it's all good! :)
