Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

If you think eating rodents is weird, just try watching Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel. That's my kind of show! Reason one: its fascinating to see the giant differences in food in different cultures, and Reason Two: I think I would actually like a lot of that crazy stuff.

But you'll never guess who -I- really am.

On another subject: Can we have the ritual scarification now?  Please?  C'mon, please?

On yet another subject still: I still have to post some new blogs, huh?  Nothing since Singapore.  Okay, fair enough.  I'm not lazy, honest, I'm just...challenged.

How about this weekend at the latest...?

(In between feeding lizards, turtles, sea-monkeys, cats, dogs, children, and anyone else who happens to wander in at trough time.)

Okay, I am skating now.  G'night.

Re: DOGHOUSE: Dawn of the Dog

The rain it raineth every day, at least for now in Northern California.  Not complaining, mind -- we need it, and compared to most places are weather is eminently liveable-with.  But I can't say I'll be unhappy to see Spring.

Okay, off to basketball, then write up a blog entry and do another chapter of DRAGONS.  Probably other stuff to do, too, but I'm blocking it out of my mind.  Don't want to scare myself.

UPDATE:

Spike, our daughter's lizard, is healthy and happy and likes to eat from Devon's fingers (food, not the actual fingers.)  He has a charming pink tongue.  He is by far the calmest and most zen of any of our pets.  When the revolution comes, I'll let him stay.

Re: DOGHOUSE: Dawn of the Dog

I had a lizard once... a wild lizard, living in the garden, but I caught flies for him and fed them to him. He took them from my fingers, too.
He was called "Us" (pronounced "Oos"), because when my father asked him what his name was, he first made an U shape with his body, then an S.

Durians...any food that smells so bad it has a sign banishing it from subways is a no-no.

And, Gen, how'd you figure out it was me?

Mom used to banish Dad to the garage when he felt the need to indulge in one.  No one joined him.

Re: DOGHOUSE: Dawn of the Dog

I had never heard of Durians until now. I just read a bit about them. They sound really strange. Banned on subways, some people love them, some people hate them. No middle ground, eh?

No.  Absolutely not.  If you've encountered one in person, you'd understand.

Re: DOGHOUSE: Dawn of the Dog

Big things, about twice the size of a coconut yellow and pulpy on the inside, I think I "had one" in the Brunei rainforest, smells off picked fresh off the tree and tasted rank in my opinion.  I can understand why they would be banned from enclosed spaces.

You've got to try these things when you go native though.

Re: DOGHOUSE: Dawn of the Dog

Every time the subject comes up, I find myself singing (to the tune of the well-known "Music Man" song, and fortunately, only in my own thoughts),

Durrrrrrr-ian
Madame Librurrrrr-ian...

We've been listening to and watching a lot of musicals around here.  The kids go to sleep most nights listening to the soundtrack of one or another.

Re: DOGHOUSE: Dawn of the Dog

It's funny you guys are talking about Durians because Newsweek just did a list of 5 fruits and Durian was one of them. I'd never heard of them before and now they crop up twice in two days for me. Cool.

on the topic of blogs, it is a rather good entry from Tad. y'know, he's a pretty darn good writer. I wonder if he's ever written any books?

I'm wondering if Spike was a result of Tad's previously noted search for a plush lizard?

Funny, I had the same thought. It's a shame this writing thing never worked out for him, he's got such a nice way with words.

i have a corn snake and a redear slider turtle.  reptiles do make excellent pets.  quite. non-stinky. relatively low maintaince. and usually calm.

of course, i have quite a few mammals as pets including children, dogs, ferrets and cats.  they are noisy, stinky, very high maintaince, and crazy.
