Ozzie Dudes and Dudettes who may be in the vicinity. I will be in Sydney for like, 3 days. I'm open to meeting any S'marchers on the 25th, which is my only free day, I'll be arriving on the 24th and leaving on the 27th, since I'm mostly there for Joanna Newsom. So anyway. If any Smarchers wanna meet up someplace cheap and working class for coffeeeeeeee let me know ;)

Unfortunately, I won't be in Sydney anytime soon. But that doesn't stop me from executing a smarchypounce upon Hiragana!

Ack! *is pounced*
... and of course you know that I have a spare bedroom with your name on it, whenever you choose to visit this little corner of the world!
And hopefully, someday soon, I'll manage to drag myself 'down-under' ~ it's been on my list for many years... *sighs*

A spare bedroom, eh? Awesome! Similarly, if you're Brisbane-side, you can always bunk with me ;) - well, I won't have a spare bed (poor l'il grad student), but I'll have a sleeping bag! *grin* And home-cooked asian food.

Oh man, you'll be in for such a treat. Have you seen her live before? She has such amazing energy. No CD can compare to a live performance...

Only on YouTube, and she was really awesome, so I can imagine how it'll be, live. I'm really looking forward to it, she's performing at the Sydney Opera House. And I'm a _huge_ fan of her music.

Yeah, I saw. For a couple of minutes when I first found out, I seriously pondered ways to fly over for that.
We totally want a complete report when you've returned.

Re: Sydney
I'll be at work on ustraya (see: Australia) day so no sydneying for me :( But there is a very small town called Pacific palms just north of Newcastle where I live if you want to/ can drop by.
*sigh* I wish I could meet more of you wonderful people in the flesh. I have only met Ceywren and Mabinogi so far and they are both beautiful people.
And I met them in dubbo, of all places. Go figure :P
*cyber huggles Ms Harris* ( I still have to get used to your new Avatar. To me you'll always be Hiragana :P)
Much less than three for Aussie/ New Zealander Smarchers!

Bummer on having to work on Australia day, Gen. I dunno where Newcastle is, and with my general confuzzledness on Aussie transport systems, I'll have to gauge distances first before I can make up my mind. It would be cool to meet up, I really want to meet the awesome Smarchly people.
And Aan, an Aussie moot would be t3h awesome. March is when my phd seminar thingos start though :-/

Aussie moot? I'm freakin there man! ( I plan to resign in the late part of Feb and bum around at my parent's place all March :P)
And Newcastle is about an hour and a half north of sydney and I'm an hour and a half north of Newcastle (It is an out of the way place so the Aussie smarchmoot may have to wait a few years :( )

Yea, it is rather out of the way. Although I met Mabs and Ceywren in Dubbo for adjectives sake! I mean Dubbo, aka 500 km's from anything else Dubbo!
Just goes to show Smarch is weird :P
Who knows, one day I might find myself in the land where they can't spell beer (aka QLD) and I'll drop in to see you. Who knows...

It's an Aussie joke. The local beer in most of QLD is XXXX (pronounced four-ex) and we new south welsh men like to proclaim that they called thier beer that because they are to simple to be able to spell b-e-e-r :P
Its one of those friendly inter-state rivalries :P

Then I figured out it was beer!

So like, I just figured I'd mention, since I'm trying to finish my YHA internet minutes...that I have just come back from watching Joanna Newsom. I don't know if I can articulate enough for a full concert report report. I'm kind of in a...daze? Daze.

Heh, I totally understand.
(For comparison, this is what I wrote just after the concert.)
(Which YHA are you in, btw? If it isn't the Glebe Point one, make certain to go there next time. Much nicer (atmosphere-wise) than Central. Especially the rooftop area with lazy hammocks.)

I was at Glebe Point and it was pretty durn awesome. I'm in love with that street. Never made it to the rooftop, typical attack of hermit shyness.
Nice review; so far, I've just added two sentences to the Joanna Newsom page on wikipedia. Ha, who knows, prolly deleted by now. She played one of her works in progress for us. Also, the first hour was Ys, with the orchestra, the second hour was The Milk-Eyed Mender as well as her newer stuff. I love Ys, only knew a couple of songs from The Milk-Eyed Mender inclusive of Peach, Plum, Pear. However, I must say that for this concert, the second hour far surpassed the first in terms of actually having Joanna _be_ Joanna. Even if the Ys segment was awesome, magical, spectacular, everything pretty much followed the order of the CD without much deviation and you got the feeling that Joanna was perhaps a little...inhibited by the orchestra? That they were excellent but like a naughty thing she wanted to be free of her minders. Before she performed the last song from Ys, she told us that "this is the _last_ song we'll be performing with the orchestra," and then with glee she told us what to expect in the next hour, after the break. And sure enough, when she came back it was like all the lights came back on and people were cheering.
So that's Joanna. Awesome. I need to get the Milk-Eyed Mender.
Also, bummer, mabs.
You know, I'm so digging Sydney that I may cautiously suggest that a future, hypothetical Aussie smarchmoot could be done here ;)
