Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Our house is now definitely starting to look like a house. We hung the doors in the closets and there are now lamps all over the house.

There are three big chores left: the attic, the kitchen floor and the stairs. Oh, and the curtains, but they haven't arrived yet.

Yalahii.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Bleh, I've been trying to clean the filters of my hood (cooker hood?, no idea what is the proper term, the machine that sucks away the vapours that result from cooking). But I've had no succes so far. And even finding out what new ones would cost turns out to be a veritable quest.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Yay! I feel a bit better now, cause I just got the image that will go on our Duchess shirts. It's looking real pretty! AND there are exactly three weeks in between now and the day we'll need the shirt, so there should be enough time left to print them.

Tis called a rangehood here. The best method to clean them is to soak them in some hardcore degreaser, like oven cleaner for instance, and then hose them out. Wearing gloves. Those degreasers can be nasty...

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

I've already tried quite a few things. I put them in the dishwasher, first on a normal temperature and then hot. Then I tried scrubbing them. Then I tried soda, and finally I tried diluted ammonia. Nothing worked.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

She can probably fix me a hoodie, but a range hood is another matter. ;) I don't think she's into metal works.

Not me personally, but I work for a restaurant supply company.  But again, I can't ship overseas, so I'd still be of no help, bleh.

Yea, you need oven cleaner to cut through the grease. Something really corrosive that can break down the grease. Ammonia is basically only good for a disinfectant and industrial dishwashers can't clean those things so I'm not surprised you didn't have any luck with yours ;)

Over here you can get stuff called Mr Muscle. Its the best domestic cleaner I've seen. Basically your looking for stuff that you need to wear gloves and a mask when using it. Or you could by fifteen tonnes of steel wool and scrub them for the next three years.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Thanks for the tip, I'll try an oven cleaner then. (But amonia is known to me as a great degreaser, at least that's what everybody says.)

And steel wool will be no help, as it can't go in between the filters. I HAVE been pondering using a steel brush though. ;)

Last night we have started on the attic, so hopefully that will be finished this weekend. *wonders what Ivo will do on his day off today*

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

*sigh* Just when we have a three day weekend Ivo gets ill. We did get some stuff done, but not as much as I'd hoped for.

Oh well, the kitchen floor is almost done. Only one board left.

And the attic now has all furniture in place so we can start unpacking the last boxes. I even hooked my computer up, but that was mostly cause I needed to forward an email that was on it.

Oh, almost forgot to say that I now have an official guest room. It's only got a mattrass for a single person, but there's room enough in the house for several more air mattrasses.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

It had better! Cause if I do indeed go all that way, it would be quite silly to stay just one weekend... OK, the thought of travelling on my own does scare me, but still...

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

*thinks back on all the silly trips she has taken*

Lessee, there is visiting our friend in Switzerland. There are the visits to Tad readings in Germany, meeting Lunar and Ylvs at a gaming convention in Hamburg. And I'm probably forgetting quite a few more! :)
