I'd heard a lot of good things about this movie but had avoided it because I'm not much of a Zombie flick fan, but with the same production companies new movie "Hot Fuzz" coming out soon I figured I owed them a look-see at this film and I was NOT dissapointed! Comedy and mild horror mixed with some very good dramatic bits and acting I throughly enjoyed. I will definatley be adding this to my DVD collection in the near future. Highly enjoyable movie!

Curse of the Golden Flower should be out on DvD soon so you should definately watch it. Though the mass-combat scene may be more dissapointing than the trailer lets on...the actual combats in the movie aren't as frequent as it may seem, but that's casue the rest of the story is very character-driven...

I just ordered copies of Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, seeing as I couldn't find them in a non-paying format. *grins*
After I get through them, and maybe Lady Vengeance, I'm going for Miike's Audition.
Pretty much nothing disturbs me when it's on film or in a book. Real life is another story, however. So I'm looking forward to these movies. :)

Oldboy is definatley twisted, I enjoyed it even at it's most perverse revelation, a TRUE revenge film done right...very funny.

HOT FUZZ!!
Saw thisa saturday, from the makers of "Shaun of the Dead", has the same two main male actors and at least 1 other actor from SotD (Bill Nighy). If you've seen Shaon of the Dead you'll laugh at some of the nods to it that are made in HF as well as nods to various bad action films...
Overall, just a fantastically well done movie, has some very well-played dramatic moments interspersed with the rest of the humor and the humor is perfectly timed one-liners and quick references all very, very funny. And I love the fact that these guys really do NOT pull punches in where they'll go for a laugh, but don't resort to jack-ass like levels of stupidity for the laughs.
altogetehr I HIGHLY reccomend goign to see this film and if you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead yet watch it first then go...you won't regret it...better than watching just about any American 'comedy' in the alst several years...dry british humor tends to lend itself better to certain types of comedy.

It is indeed a most enjoyable ride. Have you watched series one and two of Spaced? Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are both in this. Simon Pegg wrote it with Jessica Stevenson, and both series aer directed by Edgar Wright. If you like SotD and HF you can see their style developing in both series and the same humour and cultural observations shine through.

Saw Audition last night. It was 98% boredom followed with ten minutes of giggling. Nowhere near as fun as Ichi.

all i'd like to say is that john woo and chow yun fat are cinematic demigods. my evidence, you ask? hard-boiled, the killer, a better tomorrow. i rest my case!
oh, and wong kar wai too! our local arthouse theater (which is also a dinner theater run by a world-class brew pub and pizzaria) must have a wkw fan running the programming because we get at least one of his older movies every 3 months or so!

To Live by Zhang Yimou - an earlier film from the director of Hero&Daggers. with a few paifang (feng? fungi?) in it, by the way. beautiful.
Red Beard by Akira Kurosawa. slow but atmospherical, with only one (cracking) fight scene in it. great.

Can't get much more classic than the Seven Samurai...8)
Hard-Boiled is one of my all-time favorite action films...SOOO much violence in such a short space...the body count was so huge it was funny...
StormRiders, Warriors of Zuu, Butterfly Sword, Dragon Inn...all fun films...

Finally saw "28 Days After" in preperation for the upcoming "28 Months Later".
Touted as one of the creepiest films of it's time...I found it eh. Decent action film, decent bleakenss film, but nothing that even mildly suprised me...The few scenes involving the 'infected' were shaky, jerky and ususally unfocused...nothing to clarify what was going on so it removed the horror of the moment, at least it did for me.
enjoyable enough film with a fairly realistic look at what folks might stoop to in a annihilation situation like that and the whole bit about needing the women for breeding purposes to give hope is totally realistic...Grim times mean grim measures...
