Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Of course you realize this means I have to respond in kind.

Re: Lady Porcupine

Yeah! I've been kind of waiting for you to return fire. So lets see if you can take it up with ME! (sorry, my ego breaking through again)

*looks closly at sketch*
very spiky (spikier than my picture indeed)

Will you get it colored or have it monochrome?

Dream on.

Re: Lady Porcupine

Let's see...

This here picture is just a sketch, so I may go through a few more designs. I covered her legs with a dress, which may not be all too evident. In my opinion, spikes on legs would just be cumbersome, and the dress adds a bit of feminity to the whole.

Anyone remember a description of her sword (or if there was one)? I'd like to add that, and I seem to remember something interesting about it.

The spikes may look a little confusing, but I was just laying brickwork for a finalized design. Also, I tailored the armor off of a gothic design, so I added spikes to the parts of the armor that would not get in the way of itself (the ones on the breastplate are more like studs than spikes). Honestly, spikes on armor are only serve to catch enemies' weapons, so spiky armor is completely impractical, but in Yasammez's case I don't think she plans on getting hit. That which she doesn't plan, I'm fairly certain it doesn't come to pass...

Oh yeah, I should say that the next thing I'll post here will be an Inking which may or may not look completely different. I may color it, but I'm really bad at that. We shall see.

Re: Lady Porcupine

My younger sis' told me that the sword was white (she had just finished the book then).
I wanted it look a bit like Ivory so I gave it some yellow shimmer, at least in the hilt.

Dream on.

Re: Lady Porcupine

Ok, here we go:

Yasammez

I might work on coloring it, but I'm really bad at that...

Also, do not ask how she keeps her hair from getting tangled in the spikes. It is beyond mortals to fathom the ways of the Twilight People.

Re: Lady Porcupine

Nice pic!

And I totally understand your worries about colouring... I've ruined several drawings by that.

Re: Lady Porcupine

Well the one quote from the book I vividly remember is that the spikes were "shockingly long". :)

Did you see my gathering of all Yassammez references, Mike?

That´s cool... Yasammez is clearly a favorite character of mine, she´s so creepy with her single-minded hate...

Re: Lady Porcupine

hello, I also made a drawing of Lady Porcupine. It's done with ink and black pencil. Hope the quality isn't too bad. If it's so, tell me and I'll try to have a better one.

She looks a bit too "human" maybe.

Re: Lady Porcupine

Thanks everybody, glad you like it.

I'm "on board" for quite a bit now (since I finished Shadowmarch in fact), but I was only reading the topics. I live in the south of Switzerland, in the mountain (the Alps) in the French speaking part. (I know, Switzerland is a bit complicated ;))

Heh, I should have known, since it's mentioned underneath your message. ;) Not used to looking there.

Well your English is pretty good, so do join us a bit more often in our rantings, ravings and gibbering. :)
