Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

Sea Monkeys. I had sea monkeys once, and I was deeply in love with them. Then they fell off a shelf, and I cried over their small, dry carcasses.

I didn't realize we had so many sad sea monkey stories here... Tad, you've struck a nerve here, I think; your comment has opened old wounds.

If it isn't, it should be. Perhaps a long-lost sequel to The Little Mermaid?

Not worms? They've already been mentioned in the thread!

disney already did a long-lost sequel to the little mermaid. in retrospect, i think sea monkeys are fascinatingly pleasant creatures.

Re: The PENTAD

Fuzzy worms...? And there I've been needlessly disgusted by hairy caterpillars all my life when fuzzy worms would have made a much better object.

But the only fuzzy worms I've ever seen (on TV) were deep sea worms living in tubes, surrounding boilingly hot water springs.

Re: The PENTAD

Sea monkeys are a bit better today, and Magenta, our pet carpenter ant is thriving (but not in the same tank with the sea monkeys.)

I got my AR copies of RITE today...  We still have to think of a suitable contest so I can give one away.  I'll put some brainpower into it.  (Not that I have much or even any brain to spare.  I'm barely pumping blood and oxygen as it is.)

The rest of the week is nutzoid, so if you don't hear from me for a couple of days, it's nothing but overwork and overscheduling.

Maybe that's something for the contest. Help Tad's organs through the winter.

Re: The PENTAD

Sure you were, sure...We know your secrets Firsmarch, you can't fool us.

Switching the subject for a second. Wanna know how to make an online rpg better than World of Warcraft? Base it off Otherland. And here is how you would do that.

Every MMORPG has a character you control and level up, or usually at least. Otherland, since its about the real world and virtual reality, makes it possible to have multiple characters combined into one role. You would have your offline human character which takes care of daily needs, work, to support his equipment. Then you have your online human character who can travel to many different online areas, exploring the VR universe. And third, you can enter gaming areas where you level up seperate characters like the RPG game in the book. Does this make sense, sound cool?

Re: The PENTAD

But isn't Internet mostly like that? It's just that traveling in I-net does not feel like traveling in any way. No passing landscapes, no time and no 3D.

Dream on.

Re: The PENTAD

Let me explain the concept a little differently. Your offline character, the real you, would kinda play like Harvest Moon - taking care your daily life. Doing this, you could gain more money to buy better VR equipment and even customize your house with items you could buy like you do in Animal Crossing.

Then there would be the two online characters, you're real-life online version of yourself, which checks your email, does chatting, surfs online shops and websites. Then there would be the other versions, characters who you could play in Virtual Reality games like RPGS, shooters, sport games, whatever. And through all this, you would progress the story - a side story - of the four books, to discover more background to the Otherland universe.

Re: The PENTAD

Hey Tad, quick question. War of the Flowers is one of my favorite novels of all time, and the parallel universe theme which I had thought had gotten stale was totally given a breath of new life thanks to you.

What other books with themes of different universes and dimensions have you read and liked? Narnia, Dark Tower, ect?
