Re: DOGBLOG: The Math and Manners Cave
Thanks, guys. It was a lovely, albeit quiet, birthday. (I wanted it that way, because I've got so much work to do finishing up SHADOWPLAY, among about five other projects.)
Deb gave me two really cool things (as well as some other neat stuff), a neolithic battle-ax -- well, the ax-head, anyway -- and a little clay goddess sculpture of similar vintage. We've been deep into this stuff lately, because we bid (not very much, honestly) and won a group of jars that were supposedly Maya, from something called the Atlanta Museum (I think an amateur museum of some sort) but which look to me like they're almost undoubtedly Chimu instead -- similar age, but from Peru, not the Maya countries.
(I've been doing some research -- three weeks ago I knew diddly about Chimu, so I'm not trying to sound like Fancy Collector Guy.)
Anyway, the ax-head and goddess join our collection. I commune with them in the depths of night. As illustrated below.

Re: DOGBLOG: The Math and Manners Cave
They sound like good gifts :) I have a friend who communes with his collection of shiny swords so I know where you're coming from...old things and crafted weapons have mesmeric properties I reckon. Also they are good for scaring burglarists.
And all you wishing well fools with your fortunes someone should send you a rose.

Dear Tad, I am glad you did have a nice birthday!
Since you're around, do you have any more infos on your upcoming DC Comics miniseries?
I have been checking their website regularly but I cannot find a single word about it there.
Is it still scheduled for June?

Re: DOGBLOG: The Math and Manners Cave
Atlanta Museum?! As in, Atlanta, Georgia?
*perks*
Not to be a whiny redneck, but have any tour dates been set up for Shadowplay (will you be touring for Shadowplay?) and are the southeastern states included this time around?

Re: DOGBLOG: The Math and Manners Cave
It's never too late for birthday wishes, as far as I'm concerned. I'm going to milk the sucker 'til it's bone dry.
As far as the comic series, Olaf, THE NEXT is still scheduled for this summer. I've just seen the lettering proofs of the first issue, so I guess it's on schedule.

If that ever happens, I fully expect my parents to email me a Mozart cake from the Sugar Plum Bakery at LEAST once a week.
mmmm, Mozart cake.

Re: DOGBLOG: The Math and Manners Cave
Happy birthday to you, Tad.
Thanks for writing good books.
As Pratchett is falling a bit into repetition and Vance has retired (into paradise ? I should check for the old man...) you are my preferred writer.
I am currently trying to gather the elements for a (mainly) non commercial project for learning languages by interactivity on internet.
Math learning is not a priority of the project but learning manners certainly is.
As a fan-eyewink, I hope to find a place somewhere for your famous unpolite trick-question : "Are you a Puppet ?"...
Another version of the question could be: "Are you driven by bits and other numbers ?".
I am still trying to find a good name for the project (babels.org being already taken), but in a few years, maybe, a netsurfer will have the opportunity to have some bits of fun by riding the free part of It.
If It is so, I will not forget to send you a free invitation.

I will be sure to reply.
Maybe I can improve my French, which has sadly been allowed to lapse.
I'm taking German lessons once a week, so I know my language-brain still works, albeit somewhat haltingly in the midst of much other distraction...

Russians tend to crawl in the shady end of this bright-minded society that's why they are always late. Tad, a lot of affection and happy birthday wishes goes to you from your faithful russian readers (If be more precise , you just recived 7 congrats including mine) The art that you create really helps us survive. Take care!

The French will be the first part of my project, indeed...
The H.i.l.t. Project has begun its way up to launching.
It is not a very good name, being war-sounding and not french.
And Human Interactive Language Teaching is a bit silly, isn't it ? ;-)
Not a good name, but it could be a good beginning.
As talking too much is ill-mannered, I go back to secret sheming...

Re: DOGBLOG: The Math and Manners Cave
Well better late than never.....
Happy birthday to you... You live in a zoo.... You smell like a monkey.... and you look like one too!
Egads! sorry Tad, I'm mean.
Love your work, but your b'day is for YOU! not us, you should have taken the day off and had fun with the kids and doggies.
Not to mention, the wifey.
Anyway, I started Shadowmarch 2 days ago, and am almost done with it. It is interesting, how you incorporated things from Otherland and MST in it.
Well, hope all was well, and when do you come to Ocean County, NJ for a tour. Would love to meet you.
BTW a friend of mine knows you IRL. Ed Kramer. He says you rock.
