Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Re: Infinity's

It's been 85 here the last couple of days, but a cool front is swinging in, so it's dropping back where it belongs into the high 60s for a while.  I try to leave the AC off and my windows open for as long as I can stand it, but once it gets to be 85 on a daily basis - which it will by mid-May - and the nightly lows above 60, it gets too miserable, especially trying to sleep at night.

Re: Infinity's

I love opening the windows and getting Winter out of my home.

Summers do get hot and humid here. In the daytime, it is almost impossible to go out. But, the night more than makes up for it. Cools down just enough and the scents of the night-blooming flowers - can't wait.

Re: Infinity's

We got home last night & there was a landscaping company just kind of working their way through the neighborhood doing the power raking, aerating, mowing & fertilizing for cash.  We weren't really planning on doing that this year - but it was such a good deal & nice to have someone else doing it for us.  Now our grass looks almost green.  It was pretty cool.

Supposed to be a gorgeous few days here - my husbands got the rest of the week off so I'm very envious.

*sigh*

Re: Infinity's

There's a few clouds today and some wind but we're supposed to get up to 20C (68F) today. That's very near the edge of my tolerance. (25C is pretty much it, after that I can do nothing but lie there and whine.)

It's still nice and cool right now though, 6C/42F.

Oh, how I dread summer. Spring is so nice. Why does it have to lure us in with prettiness only to turn out to be pure burning evil?

Re: Infinity's

gaah! so i'm now a part-time wench because my boss decided that i was "oozing" attitude today, and so now i'm off mattinees for the next couple of weeks (which means i'll only actually be missing one shift this week and maybe three next week). i completely object to that only because today i was actually quite decent to him. there's been a lot of BS going on at the palce lately and we're all getting really frustrated at the unfairness and stupidity that the managers are all displaying towards us "peasants." in other words, the knights and squires have a lounge, a backstage area, a dressing room, a change room, entire little alcoves in which to keep their stuff. whie if we leave our lock on our little cubed foot lockers overnight all our stuff gets thrown out. which they did before they told us they would start throwing our stuff out. now i  down a discman containing a borrowed cd, a box of tea that is almost impossible for me to get a hold of, and several articles of clothing. geoff, the food and beverage manager, isn't really to blame for all the bullshit, but neither is he being very understanding about the whole situation. as a result i've been pushing him a lot out of pure malicious revenge because i know he can't afford to fire me until the end of the season, and i don't really care if i get fired when the season's over. he's been looking for an excuse to put me in my place for a while, so today he took me up to his office and said that four different managers and assistant managers had complained about me giving them cheek today. which, like everything else in that place, is bullshit. whatever. i feel like i should be angry about it but i can only laugh because the whole situation reminds me of the dogs at the park: trying to dominate one another without wanting to drive each other away. whatever. the break will be nice anyway. at least i don't have to get up at 6 tomorrow anymore.

But, seriously, sorry for your troubles at work. Hope things work out for you. *hugs*

Re: Infinity's

oh they always work out since the managers aren't actually capable of focussing on anything for more than a couple of weeks at a time before they move onto something else. it's just frustrating because you could say so much and you know that you can't actually push them that far until you have another job lined up. i just pushed him a bit further than i should have. it's not really all that detrimental. he'll prolly realize how much he needs decent servers by the end of the week and start putting me back onto the schedules. but first he'll pull me into his office and give me a spiel about how generous he is in doing this grand thing of forgiving me of his stupidity. sorry, don't mean to rant. well yes actually i kind of do mean to rant. but i'll stop now, promise.

Re: Infinity's

Mornin' y'all. :)

*offers tea to Ceywren*

It's gonna be hot here today. Is it nearly fall?

Anyways, I got my spring cleaning done. I think later today I'll go downtown and pick up some fresh sunscreen so I can go outside and sit in the shade.

spring cleaning is the curse of the gods. the worst thing that has to be spring cleaned at our place is the dog. and the basement, but my parents won't let me touch that.

*waves at Martha*

I just made my son his first *ever* milkshake.

I just bought a blender and found some good soy ice cream and milk and made it for him. I feel like such a good mommy. Specially since he called to get me to pick him up from school early cuz he had a headache.

Re: Infinity's

G'maen. :)

I just did my grocery shopping. But I used the wrong debit card so I have to go out and transfer some money from one bank to another. Annoying.

Maybe I'll buy some flowers for my containers.

Happy friday!

Re: Infinity's

*peeks in*

Got back 8am yesterday from our adventure.  It was fun but so tiring. :)

I'm trying to get myself caught up with things.  And I apparently forgot about a rehearsal which was while I was away.  Darn.

But I saw my first moose!!  It was a young moose, and he was kinda shaggy, his winter coat growing out.  But it was very, very cool!

*sets out a big plate of croissants*

A moose? Cool!
I have been driving back and forth to my daughter's school through the New Hampshire mountains for 3 years now, waiting to see a moose at one of the "Moose Crossing" signs... so far... no luck.

Re: Infinity's

Speaking of moose... There were deer everywhere last weekend. Apparently the hill country around Austin is where all the fashionable deer live. I've never seen so many deer in my life.
