Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Tad - Your oldest was not yet born the last time we saw you -- Deb was enciente but not yet showing.

I just dropped by to say that I've started reading "War of the Flowers" and am enjoying it a good deal.

Are you in touch with Mark Kreighbaum these days? How's he doing? Where's he living?

Well.  Yes.  I can see how gin would be more theraputic than a Chupa-thingy with olives.  Right.  Quite.  As you were.

That's a question a lot of us would like the answer to. I miss his stories!

Re: Mark Kreighbaum, aka Markk on this board.

Yes, I just got a letter and owe him one back (along with his Xmas/birthday present...)

He's still living in the Bay Area, and is very, very busy editing the SFWA Forum, among other things.  (For those who don't know SFWA, that's the Science Fiction (and Fantasy) Writers of America.

I'll tell him you said howdy when I write or phone him next, and if you send me your current email -- I can be reached at tad@shadowmarch.com -- I'll pass that along to him too.

Doggin' the blog tonight because I'm exhausted.  We took the kids to the NASA Mars exhibit, which was fun, except that tracking our daughter, Attila the Honeybee, from spot to spot for a few hours is like running a marathon.  Jeez, that kid never stops, and never more than about a minute in one place (except while she was coloring on a computer art program.)

Anyway, I'll post more tomorrow.  Mars is cool!  The kids agree.

Canberra's piece of astronomy I missed out on.  The Stromlo Observatory burnt down before I visited.  :S

Re: DOGBLOG III

My sister does that to me, the wretched child, and SHE was the one who wronged ME in the first place!

Er...all things being subjective, of course ;)

's all right. She'll have impressionable offspring of her own in a few years, and then I'll get my comeuppance. MUAHAHAHA!! *ahem*

Re: DOGBLOG III

in my long and expert experence, it is ALWAYS the youngest child who was wronged, for us youngest children are always perfect angles who never drove our elder syblings to distraction, with our youthfull irradesance,..

ye youngest children are ALWAYS right.

Re: DOGBLOG III

I am the youngest of three, the eldest kindly allowed me to share his birthday, and he's bitter as he only got half presents from then on.  The 'middle brother, who suffers from chronic middle child syndrome, suffers from chronic middle child syndrome, I realise I may be repeating myself but I though it was a note worthy of two mentions.
I am the youngest, I spent my single figure years in handy down clothes playing with handy down toys, good job my siblings were unisex.
The point is, and I'm sure it's been said before, but is Tad going to do some promotion of Shadowmarch in blighty when it is published over here??
This will compensate for my childhood in a way no-one will ever know, including me!

Re: DOGBLOG III

Despite being the eldest I also had handmedowns. Granted, not as many as my little brother or sister had, but still.

Re: DOGBLOG III

Just to clarify, were they handmedowns from other people (something I really hope we get) or was your younger brother bigger than you so you got handmeups, or have I crossed a line that should never be crossed.  Like using exe's names as suggestions for babies?

Re: DOGBLOG III

Nope, handmedowns from aunts. My brother wasn't bigger then. And after I was eleven I got an alowance to buy my own clothes, so the problem ended then.

Re: DOGBLOG III

Sick with boring cold.  Can't think.  Can't write.  Have spent most of day following children around in a blur of cold symptoms.  Bah, humbug, on germs.

It's not so bad, actually.  Just feeling sorry for myself.

Should be better tomorrow.  Then I will come and write clever things, make people to laugh and sing, yes!  With joyful jumping, too.

Re: DOGBLOG III

I was looking at the bits I never look at as I normally come straight in the BB and found this "There will be extensive promotion in 2004, US and UK, for Shadowmarch. We will post dates of all events, talks, and signings"
So that kind of answers my questions.
Any, even wobbly, plans yet for rough months or cities in UK?
