Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

GARCIA!  Nice place!  Good tunes!

*Presents her with some strobe lights, a few disco balls for the bedroom, and some colored, moving lights to add ambience*

So where's the mosh pit?  Rock on!

Hi Garcia,

I'm just walking through the neighborhood dispensing gifts all around and of couse I had to visit here as well. Here is a little something for when you don't know what music to put on.

* gives a box set with all the Ayreon CD's *

Hope you like it.

I breathe music. Or maybe I just hear it, and my ears and nose get mixed up sometimes...

Just testing out the URL in my quote...

Hi Garcia! Nice pandemonium!

The name of this makes me fervently miss Pandy (old Tad-world friend).

Re: The Musical Pandemonium

Good morning, folks! Scorpiana, MoP, Libbette, and Nolan, thank you for all the lovely presents!

roguewill, welcome to my little house of music. Take a seat but don't forget to mosh in the open air area behind the house! We have a mudpit there for the Mud People, and a lot of nice views directly to the stage! I'm sure Nolan is going to join you there!

*throws Libbette's glitter around* Together with the disco ball my bedroom turns into a great 80ies disco. Dance, people, dance!

Shads, I opened a NIN room just for you, hehe. And Marian, a PM is on the way to you!

Oh, and Bumadax: Feel free to ramble about music here. It seems as if music is as important to you as it is to me, therefore I would be happy to have you around more often!

I like that quote, footle ... Looking forward to seeing you later.

Which brings me to an idea: Those who stumble into my little house of music should post their favourite lyrics, maybe with a short explanation why they like it.

Re: The Musical Pandemonium

Okay well...start with the obvious...

Hurt, on The Downward Spiral, Nine Inch Nails

*mild warning, may offend*

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
That old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away
In the end

And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of shit
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feeling disappears
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away
In the end

And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

To tell you the truth...I can't say why I love this song.  Musically, it is skeletal, and hauntingly beautiful.  Lyrically, it touches so many truths...
It says something I often don't have the strength to say.....

Re: The Musical Pandemonium

Favourite lyrics, favourite lyrics ... How many Gigabytes does this server provide?

Well, alright, here's one:

Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

(Final stanza from Dylan's My Back Pages. For whole text see here)

Why this one? I eventually understood at least some of what he says in the song only years after, when I finally turned my back on university.

Usually, to be completely unbiased and objective, you have to have no idea what you're talking about.

Re: The Musical Pandemonium

Wow, folks, thank you ... Bumadax, yes, of course! Send me what you composed, I can listen to it right here!

Shadows and djf, that was beautiful. It is often hard to describe what you like about a song but sometimes there's a line in the lyrics or a chord that makes your soul shiver ...

Rimmersguard, yep, this is my place. I could make an Atari Teenage Riot room for you, if you like noise.
