Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Marian,

I'm sure its going to be a good thing.  And you'll still be able to hang out with the people you like from work it sounds like.

You've just gotten an opportunity to make even more new friends!

Cordially,

ElderTurtle (P.o.W.)

Re: Quiller's Mint -- The Unstocked Larder

*rummuges through his files for something else amusing to help cheer Marian*

Hmmm ... well ... I posted this yesterday so some of you've probably already seen it, but what the hey.  It's not like I don't repeat myself in real life.

Ahem.

Inspired by one of your fellow Smarchers .sigs, I took a rusty, blunt hatchet to the BareNakedLadies song Alcohol and rendered it into the following song:

Shadowmarch

Shadowmarch - my permanent accessory.
Shadowmarch - a party time necessity.
Shadowmarch - alternative to feeling like yourself.
Oh Shadowmarch, I still drink to your health.

I love you more
Than I did the week before
I discovered Shadowmarch.

Forget the “penny-dreadfuls”, screw the snide literati
First “Memory” to “Thorn” for you, then “Otherland” for me.
Shadowmarch, your tales resolve like my own never will
When Shaso still has wyverns left to kill.

I love you more
Than I did the week before
I discovered Shadowmarch.

Oh Shadowmarch
Would you please forgive me?
For why I cannot write myself
I’ll read something else!

I thought that Shadowmarch was just for those with nothing else to do.
I thought that posting just for numbers was no way to pay my dues.
But now I know that there's a time and there's a place where I can choose.
To walk the fine line between self-control and self-abuse.

(Go, Go, Go, Go, Go, Go, Go!)

I love you more
Than I did the week before
I discovered Shadowmarch.

Would you please ignore
That I snuck in the back-door
Scribbling the G.E. for all?

Oh Shadowmarch
Would you please forgive me?
For why I cannot write myself
I’ll read something else!

Would you please forgive me?
Would you please forgive me?

Cordially,

ElderTurtle (P.o.W.)

Re: Quiller's Mint -- The Unstocked Larder

Thanks, red, too.

I'm the kind of person who's very attracted and attached to the idea of community. My identity is oriented to the people and places around me, and I'm going through a big identity shift right now.

Not change, just shift. I'm shedding the warm but restricting blanket of comfort and going into the unknown. I want to go boldly and bravely, but I have many moments every day where I just want to crawl under a rock and make everything stay exactly the same.

I think I know what you mean, Marian.  And if you mean what I think you mean, I've been doing something like that myself lately.

Ah Marian - I'm always glad to help!  Life should consist of more smiles than tears (and tears should be the result of an overabundance of joy!)  Alas that sometimes it is not so.  Thus, my enjoyment of the small pleasure of brightening another's day.

Re: Quiller's Mint -- The Unstocked Larder

Marian!

EH!  AH!  OI!  AIRHOSE!

*points with a shaking finger back at the "Quillers Mint: The Fountain" topic.*

[b]I read an article about a book that discusses bestiality and how it's making a comeback.
*really must watch the topics she introduces to late-night talks if she wants to maintain her oh-so-innocent image*

Sheesh!  You're getting to be as bad as Nolan!

(or me.)

Y'all really were being naughty last night.

Re: Quiller's Mint -- The Unstocked Larder

Aww, if you're going to quote anything, it should be the lamp poems!

Yes, Bet, don't try to look all innocent. You know you'd been *whispers* drinking.

I've never been drunk here! Not once!

Well, maybe once.

Or twice.

Re: Quiller's Mint -- The Unstocked Larder

What's even more amazing is that I chose a page at random out of the middle of the Fountain topic!  If that's an example of the normal line of thought running through last night's discourse, well then ... the topic may have been The Fountain, but the minds were still in the previous topic: The Gutter!

And I missed it!

*sob*

*peers after the retreating ET*

We probably should have stopped him for his own good.

I think that kehv's hydra heads are growing back at an exponential rate.  He's checked in twice, then gone both times.

*sends happy vibes kehv's way*

AAAAAAAAAAAAH!

My god!  The horror!  The horror!

*clearly ElderTurtle made the mistake of shattering Rule #1 and Rule #2 whilst reading pages 12-16 of the Fountain topic*

I should toddle off to bed, seeing as it is 4:30 in the morning here.

Night smarchers, have a good weekend.

Hmmm.  English is a very strange language.  Just consider:

If a "vegetarian" is someone who eats only vegetables, what, then is a "humanitarian?"

Makes me glad I'm a native speaker.
