Re: What Are You Reading Now, Hmmmmm?
Last month, I was into reading classics. I finished *The Three Musketeers* and then *Black Beauty*.
Currently, I'm reading *Green Mars* by Kim Stanley Robinson. This will start a string of books about traveling to Mars, exploring Mars, colonizing Mars, and terraforming Mars. All this is in honor of the safe touchdown of the Curiosity Rover last Monday. I'm so excited to see what information Curiosity is going to send back for us. Here's another step in the science fiction of today becoming the science of tomorrow. Go science and engineering!
Lead me not into temptation, especially bookstores.

Finished up Game of Thrones, onto Clash of Kings. Definitely enjoying the series so far! I think my favorite characters (in no particular order) are: Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Ned Stark. Definitely subject to change at a moment's notice, the way their own alliances shift!

Finished Matched by Ally Condie. Liked it well enough that I'm going to get the other books in the series. About to start The Sun Never Rises in the Big City by Jeremy C. Shipp.

Re: What Are You Reading Now, Hmmmmm?
I'm currently reading Ken MacLeod's Intrusion. Nine pages in, I already had to give the book a rest for a couple of hours because I was getting too worked up. It's very much science fiction in the situation is describes, but (as with most good science fiction), the themes and attitudes are very much about the here and now; the complete intrusion of the nanny state into people's private lives, and the ever increasing erosion of privacy. I'm taking this book into very small doses, and so haven't read much, but if it keeps up from this beginning, I think we've found the next 1984. Extremely powerful writing!

Finished the Shipp which I didn't care for and started The Colored Lens: Summer 2012. That's a collection of short stories. Liked the first one about putting ghosts to work.

Finished The Colored Lens: Summer 2012. Interesting stories. About to start Crossed by Ally Condie. Still working on Leon Uris' Exodus. (That's my 'read for an hour before I go to sleep' book.)

Re: What Are You Reading Now, Hmmmmm?
Moving up from Shadowplay to Shadowrise. Second book was a lot better than the first... I realise this might be because of the peculiar way the story came about originally. Anyway, at some point it felt like I was being besieged by an army of queer creatures... funderlings, rooftoppers, and all crazy things beyond the shadowline. It took a while to come to terms with all this. Also, the tinwright/elan story doesn't add anything to the story so far, it feels entirely disconnected. But I assume it will become somewhat important soon or late. Still, it's an unexplained thread throughout the book, and that's dragging things down a bit.

Welcome to the boards MaxHallram!
I'd never stop anyone from rerading Otherland but I strongly suggest to read Tad's new novel The Dirty Streets Of Heaven first. It'll be out on september 4 th. Great book, trust me!

Yes, I saw the advert for it.
Looks good, I'll probably have to buy it.

Re: What Are You Reading Now, Hmmmmm?
Went on a book binge this weekend. I blame it on The Hunger Games. My wife was dying to know what happened next after watching the movie. At the same time, though, I got into a series I've always wanted to try all year: Kim Stanley Robinson Mars Trilogy. I'm about 1/4th through Red Mars right now, and I'm loving it. I guess all my years in engineering now have made me more appreciative of the very methodical approach Robinson takes, examining --- step by step --- how a Martian colonization would go. It's very old school sci-fi, but I'm very happy that there's a more modern writer trying out the hard science approach.

I thought Red Mars was the beginning of the series, though?
