Sahi's Greenhouse

The game tables have disappeared again as one more of my neglected brain children. And so the greenhouse is back to it's old self, or is it really? The plants certainly don't look as pretty as those in the botanimaniac's garden. But the sheep still frolic around in their meadow under the tree and Kulgan is still happily reading his books.

Over by the desk you can see a large poster that you can read even from where you're standing.

JOIN US AT SAGE!

Intrigued you walk closer to read the smaller print. SAGE turns out to be Sahi's Annual Greenhouse Event and it will be held in the first weekend of september in the Netherlands at Sahi's new place. On saturday there will be a large gathering of smarchers who will do smarchy stuff and for those from abroad there will be a place to spend the night, so they won't have to leave the party halfway through. Kulgan informs you that you could even come in on friday evening, if that's more convenient. Although he hastens to add blushingly that you really have to discuss it  with Sahi first.

He then adds that there's been talk that Magpie, Sisterdew, Aan, Libra and Yvls might join the party and that there have even been rumours that Lunar might join.

Having delivered his message, he bumbles back to the shade of the tree to continue his book.

Yalahii.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Things we can do at sage:

- play games (available: DragonDice, Cosmic Encounter, Dreamblade, Magic the Gathering, Set, Revenge of Tutanchamon)
- listen to music
- talk
- cook and eat

Any other suggestions?

Available here: Mahjong and Carcassonne - and if regular gaming meetings ever get going I hope/suspect a large amount of the games listed at boardgamegeek.com will come into my possession as well. (I'm currently already eyeing War of the Ring and Ticket to Ride.)

Any other suggestions?

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Ooh, the games there remind me I should invite my brother as well. I think he had Puerto Rico and he definitely has Goblin Ate My Baby (not that I saw it mentioned at a first glance).

Oh, I forgot to mention I have the card game of Settlers Of Catan.

ABC might be a nice idea, it'll take some planning to get there though. I'm not quite sure how far it is to walk from my house to the station.

I also like the plotting idea. Although we must include plotting on how to make Ivo like the idea. ;) (Although the mere presence of smarchers might convince him.)

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Since I was in the vicinity anyway today, I went over to the station (no way I could start putting it off again, not when I was with a friend!) to ask about train fares. Sounds manageable...

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

I like all the ideas sofar!!! But I have no more games to put in, as they were already mentioned....But I might get my hands on some other ones!!!!
*glees* I have no friends that like playing games...this is gonna be fun!!!

And Aan, I definately dig the book-ideas-idea!!!

Oh and much talking of course...
And for eating, we might be able to all make some little things... and do a buffet!!! Although that might be more difficult for everyone that has to come from out of the Netherlands...

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Well I thought we might all bring a recipe (or something) and cook them together. If the recipes are sent in beforehand I can see about buying all the ingredients.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

I don't have any games (except perhaps the silly Harry Potter card game we made up a couple of years ago), but I could bring the world's best tomatoes, in at least 3 different colours. If they survive the transport. And if I don't eat them myself on the way. *is so obsessed with tomatoes*

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Fine project.

Is there a real greenhouse in your new place ?

If you create a panel named "Real Greenhouses of Smarchers", I will send you a photo of mine which is painted red with blue-and-red real vitrals.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Cool idea! I'll think about it.

But no, right now there is no actual greenhouse yet. I've been looking into it, but they're rather expensive. So it'll take a while before I get one.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Yay! More people who want to join! I'd love to have you over Rimmers!

No, I don't quite live there yet. Only a few more weeks though. Next wednesday I'll get the key. In four weeks time I'll have handed in the key to our old house.

This afternoon I'll go and measure the width of a cart at Ikea. We only just realised (after hearing someone of their staff warn another customer about it) that their carts can only carry 130 kilos. (Which is very little if you consider that one closet weighs 50 kilos without shelves and doors. And we need 9 of them.) Which in turn means that if the cart isn't wide enough to hold the packs flat, we run a serious risk of our furniture getting damaged by falling over. (Something we'll have no control over if we have them deliver it to our place, since it'll all be in their care for a while.)

So I'm in for a burst of calculation to see how to best divide the stuff over carts.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Wow some calculation shows that I would need 8 carts. (And then we still have to pick up a lot of stuff on our own.)

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Well the lady at the transport desk claimed 8 carts was no problem. So the only problem with 8 carts is that you have to GET them to the transport desk first. (And you can only move one of them at a time, so we'll need six more persons to get them there OR we have to walk back and forth.)

Yalahii.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

The other part of the problem was that if you want them to lug all that stuff up to the first floor, they can't tell you in advance when they'll come by. They'll come at the first possible moment. Meaning that it could be the next day up to almost a week.

Which is a problem, as our planning is rather tight. So I've now made a planning to go by Ikea three times (for the big loads, we'll go by a lot more times for the smaller stuff). I've even split up all three loads into carts.

So now we need to find some volunteers to help with the carts. (Which should be no problem, we simply haven't got round to it yet.)

yalahii.

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Today we're going to get the first few things from Ikea. Mostly hinges, drawer fronts and other assorted small stuff.

And after that there will be some people round to take a look at our house. They sounded young and enthusiastic. So who knows, we might be able to leave some stuff behind. (Over here a rental place has to be stripped if the new owner doesn't want anything.)

Re: Sahi's Greenhouse

Yup, real Billy bookcases. 6 of them, all 2.36m high and 0.8m wide. :)

But those will have to wait for a while. First the small stuff, then the bedroom, then the storage room and only then all of the other stuff.

I want to get Billy bookcases, too (by the way, that's husband's name).

The "special" parts (glass fronted, etc.) cannot be shipped, tho', and there's no store around here. Bummer.

I know. I'll have to check out a store that's within driving distance (I think there's one in Atlanta) and see if they ship.
