yeah, i just tried it and it was a no-go.  I run into the same thing when I try to listen to NFL games from on-line radio stations....they're blocked overseas.   I'm not sure why that is, actually.

That is so wrong!  It should be free for the masses.  Bummer.

It is because sometimes other companies have the international rights to the broadcast or show and, thus, ABC or the NFL or whoever can't let the international audiences watch from their own site because then they would be crimping on the rights holder's way to make money. Gosh that was horribly written out, but hopefully understandable.

Need to find a way to access a US Proxy server...hrm...probably have to, like me, work for an international company that has servers in the US. Or in my case a server outside the US so I can get to all the sites they have blocked for us at work...8P

Re: The Grand Illusion

Hey Nevy! Glad to see you are still around. I've been watching torchwood on HDnet which is about three weeks behind BBC America. I think some episodes are great and some are soso. Overall I think Dr. Who is more consistent. Also there is waaaay too much guy on guy action for my delicate sensibilities.  and I find Owen icky and unbelievable as a guy ladies would like. Plus, he's a jerk and ugly. How's that for not pulling any punches. :)

Re: The Grand Illusion

Whats funny is that I know a lot of ladies that would disagree with you Fangler, as far as Owen goes anyway, some find him plenty attractive and remember some are also drawn to assholes, something about a strength of personality.
Though I do agree about the too much guy on guy stuff...8P
Though having Spike..er...James Marsters, on the season 2 Pilot was brilliant and what a great character too...8)...even if it did mean more male on male lip-locking...8P

Sadly the only thing I've found worth watching right now is Lost, nothing else on even vaugely interests me...8P

The books aren't as good. No, that's not right. The books are different. They are lighter. There isn't the high level of tension or drama and they take some turns that I would classify as downright amateurish. They are fun, light, reading though.

Re: The Grand Illusion

Yeah I read the books last wekk, way too short. I think the series developed in a much more filled-out manner if that makes any sense. I liked the villain from book 2 a lot and hope he turns up in an upcoming season of the series. Book 3 was...interesting...I like the 2 kids form the book better even if they do turn out a LOT darker, but I'm not sure I like the idea of 'demonic possession' being an answer but the idea that true killers can sense each other makes a kind of sense.
Insanity has often been said to be a form of genius and I've been of the belief that a genius is just someone who has unconsciously tapped deeper into the well of their potential...clsoe to psychic than anything. Psycho/socio paths are dipping into similar but darker wells...*shrug*...just my two bits on it...

Re: The Grand Illusion

Lost Discussion anyone?

I think last nights episode was kind of a tired return to the show, just didn't feel like it really had the right energy to it...some good stuff, like seeing Ben with REAL emotion that he actually meant for once...
other than that it left me feeling kinda eh...8P

Re: The Grand Illusion

I loved the episode.  I really like the complexity of Ben's character.

LOST SPOILERY BITS FOLLOW...

Hugo: "Australia is the key to the whole thing."

'course that was re: Risk, but...

I'm with you, Wolfshade. I thought the ep was great -- loads of stuff going on there. Ben's character development was a lot of fun to watch, and though I don't trust him either, but I'm enjoying watching how the character unfolds.

It was a stretch for me when Locke acted rather stupid about the code phone call. "It's for Ben" indeed. As paranoid as Locke is, it would seem more in character for him to be immediately on guard and at least arm up before heading out to check with Ben; and taking 5 minutes to discuss it wouldn't fit either. But, eh. Did love that Ben, under house arrest, had a shotgun in his piano bench. Ha! The red-shirts during the Sawyer shoot-out drew a surprised LOL from me. 1, 2, 3 -- bam bam bam. Sheesh. I'm liking Miles alot, and that he wanted to hang with the Islanders rather than go back to the Freighters was interesting - but he's pretty smart and opportunistic I think.

The Sayid flash-forward story was very interesting. As was the Ben - Widmore exchange. And, "he changed the rules" ...

Smokey rawks.

And now we have to have 3 to see Jacob. Locke to talk to him; Hugo to find the cabin anyway. I'm still wondering whether Hugo seeing Jack's dad in the rocker inside the cabin was a 'real' vision of Jacob. Jacob - Jack... hm.

And the Jack camp. Go Bernard! Heh. Faraday is so busted. I'm wondering if Faraday and/or Lewis have slipped Jack a little something that's making him sick. And the dead doc, that's feeling-much-better-now back on the boat is a bit trippy.

I don't have time to poke around at the various LOST sites around the web, but I do read the ep recaps by Jeff Jensen on ew.com and there are always some interesting tidbits there. This week's is pretty good for filling in some of the resonances and Easter Eggs: Raiders of the 'Lost' Story Arc

Can't wait for next week....

And tonight, more BSG!!

Re: The Grand Illusion

I really liked this weeks episode as well.  Ben is just so evil.  He looks weak and then all the sudden, BAM! You are like, whoa, he scares me.  Total puppetmaster.  Anyways,  I liked having Hurley and Sawyer back in the dialogue.  They always make me laugh.
I am glad they are heading for Jacob's cabin.  That part of the story is very perplexing to me.
I also wonder if Russo is really dead.
and well Smokey....totally awesome!

Re: The Grand Illusion

warning, slighlty spoilerish...

I liked this week's episode a LOT...action that covered all of the seperated groups and the uber flashback to John...so question is, what else did Christian and Claire tell John? Does he know Christian is Jack AND Claires Father?
I can see how what they have to do will screw up locating the island and why some people won't get off the island at all...very cool...8)

For those who watch it, Burn Notice re-starts June 10th.
For those who don't and like spy/intrigue shows with comedy...you SHOULD watch it...I think you can watch all of the episodes on USA.com

Howdy Ren! Based on your recommendation I started watching the re-runs of Burn Notice on USA. I guess they are replaying the whole series in anticipation of the new season starting. Anyway, this show wroks! It is a fantastic throwback to the loner helping others genre ala Hulk and Fugitive and such but has a great mix of Alias spy stuff going on, too. Awesome show. Thanks for talking about it in here.

Re: The Grand Illusion

Yeah, it's really an amazingly fun and entertaining show, and all of the characters are interesting in their own ways. Including Bruce Campbell as a semi-alcoholic ex-spy mooch was a really nice touch. I know there has been a trend towards largish ensemble casts for shows but I think this one benefited greatly form having only 3 primary characters and a few recurring characters (His Mom is priceless!).
