Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Re: It came at just the Rite time, too.

My copy of Rite arrived at my home yesterday. However, I'm at college and don't plan to visit home until the end of next week. :-(

My mother was making jokes about holding it hostage, too.

So, hopefully . . .

If not, well . . .

hell to pay!

Re: It came at just the Rite time, too.

I have a dilemma.  I ordered Rite and Shadowplay at the same time from Amazon.  To get free shipping (hey, I'm saving my money to buy TadBooks!) all of the items have to be shipped together.

Which means I have to wait until the middle of March to get my copy.

So my dilemma is:  which S'marcher's house should I sneak into to read Rite before my copy comes?

Hmm.  Maybe I should look into this "Rite" book.

I'll post you my copy for a lend...but it's only fair that you pay the fee for your postman's hernia operation after carrying it to you 8P.

Hazel, you're welcome to come over here and read my copy. There's a hotel very near my house. (As I have not yet moved, I haven't got a guest room yet.)

Re: It came at just the Rite time, too.

Apparently, Subterranean Press has sold out their print run of RITE. So, if you have been considering to buy a copy, hurry up. Amazon seems to have some copies still, and other booksellers might also have copies in stock, but when these are gone, they´re gone for good.

I still have to wait to read it. I let it ship to CA and it came out too late for my sister to bring it for christmas.

*pouts*

I'll definetly order SmarchII to be shipped here!

It is not the first time she's done it either. When I ordered Memory, Sorrow and Thorn in mass market edition a few years ago, she hid The Dragonbone Chair and The Stone of Farewell.

Needless to say, I wasn't happy. I did have to make an unplanned trip back, so I did pick up Rite and have read some of it. Good so far!

By the way, does any one else's copy of the book have many of the "v"s unprinted? I don't mind it, really, but it kind of jars me out of the flow.

Re: It came at just the Rite time, too.

When author Tad Williams received copies of his book Rite, he noticed a very unusual printing error in the book: in italicized text, the letter “v” had gone missing. Tad informed us of the error, and we set out to understand how this error had happened. For some reason, this error only occurred in the printing process itself; as our outside proofer can tell you, the page proofs of the book had all “v”s in the right place. Subterranean, our proofer and our printer are still looking into what went wrong, so we can avoid this sort of problem in the future.

If we had been able to catch this error during the early stages of the printing process, naturally we would have stopped the run and made a correction. At this point, however, 90% of the print run has been sold; recalling and reprinting is, at this late date, a moot point. Be that as it may, I am aware that any error in our books reflects on all the work we do, and ultimately I am responsible for making sure that every book we print and sell meets our high standards. I take full and personal responsibility for this printing error.

I want to apologize to Tad Williams for this printing error; it’s marred what is otherwise a truly wonderful book. Tad has been nothing less than a gentleman through this entire process, and I’ve been grateful for his courteousness. I hope to be able to make this up to him in the future.

I also want to apologize to Subterranean’s readers. We slipped. I will, and Subterranean will, do what we can to make sure this is one slip that won’t happen twice.

Sincerely,

William Schafer

Re: It came at just the Rite time, too.

Yeah, I noticed that, it was like a shadow of a v but I thought it made mine a more unique limited copy, uber-limited; now I know they're all like that.

Nice to see they are very serious about the quality of their product but not such a biggie for me.

If Tad comes over with one of the sMarch books I'll bring it along with a black pen, sure he won't mind.  He's already signed it so a few corrections won't be too much to ask.
