Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

Well then, now for the movies. I won't put any anime or cartoon film in this theme, unless its more a long the lines of graphic animation: Toy Story, Shrek, Finding Nemo, ect. Also, if a movie is based off of a book and the film is more popular by far than the book, I'm putting it under the film theme.

1. Alice in Wonderland
2. 007 James Bond
3. Wuxia (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) (Hero) or (Matrix) for examples
4. Wizard of Oz (Books as well)
5. Star Wars
6. Toy Story
7. A Bugs Life
8. Western Film
9. Horror
10. Pirates of the Carribean

Comments, Suggestions? What you like, not like? Thanks, and after this, we'll talk about the themes based off of books.

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

I'd never heard of the term Wuxia, but the themes sound good.

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

Sounds like it could be fun. I have to speak out and say Xenogears is much better than Xenosaga story wise, from what I remember at least...

Just curious as to why you going for specific movies, games, and books rather than a slightly more generic thematic/setting scheme?

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

Wildcard themes will be for that. I'll throw those out of the blue for surprises every once in a while. I think I said that somewhere, maybe not though. Terrible memory I have.

Oh, and Wuxia is a type of martial arts that balances with realism and fantasy/folklore. You ever wonder how they could jump from tree to tree, then several miles, and then run and leap on water? That is Wuxia. Also, using Jedi Force  could be considered a sci-fi approach to Wuxia.

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

Okay, now time for books.

1. Lord of the Rings
2. Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn
3. Otherland
4. War of the Flowers / Narnia
5. Dungeons and Dragons
6. Malazan Book of the Fallen
7. Harry Potter
8. Macbeth
9. Romeo and Juliet
10. Dante's Divine Comedy

I'll definitely need suggestions and comments on this list. I know most of its fantasy - I couldn't think of any other good books that weren't. My mind is having a fart-attack right now.

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

Uhm...not that i don't like all of the books mentioned....but it would be cool to do a few in a different theme... there's more fantasy than anything else right now...Why not add something Stephen King-ish...or thriller-like ( p.e. elisabeth george, robin cook, ludlum).... or go for the weird approach and throw in some pooh, terry pratchett...or whatever...and if you go for romeo and julliet ( whispers...film is cool to!!)

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

We can also extend the list for books. I could go for some Stephen King and I would say Robert Ludlum, but I don't him good at all - I just saw the two Bourne movies, haven't read the third book. What about some Jack London books like Call of the Wild or White Fang?

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

It might take some time for me to get to this list on books. My aunt just died and I'm taking a trip to go to the funeral. I'll be back in two days.

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

Okay, I'm back. We'll throw in some other themes of books as the game progresses, just to keep everyone happy. Here is the list for cartoons and anime, manga, comics, and graphic novels. Since this is a wide variety, the list will be bigger than the other ones.

1. X-Men
2. Teen Titans
3. Justice League
4. Cowboy Bebop
5. Inuyasha
6. Naruto
7. Dot Hack/Sign
8. Sin City
9. Dragonball Z
10. Gundam
11. Neon Genesis Evangelion
12. Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind
13. Princess Mononoke
14. Spirited Away
15. Castle in the Sky
16. Aladdin
17. The Little Mermaid
18. Bambi
19. Snow White
20. Cinderella

Comments, suggestions. If we get lucky and Snow White and Cinderella come up close together, it could mean some love triangle (hehe) (haha) (hoho) (!!!)

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

Sorry that this is taking so long to get ready. In all honesty, I haven't started putting the final list together, even though I have all the  submissions ready. I have been very sick lately, extending for a long period of time. Fortunately, I am starting to feel better and am optimistic that I can get the things together soon.

Thank you for your patience.

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

Thanks for the understanding. I think I should have the list ready by the end of the week, and maybe even have the prologue to start the game done.

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

In Dutch we have a saying "wat in het vat zit verzuurt niet" (literally: what's in the barrel doesn't get sour"), meaning that just because it's on hold, doesn't mean it won't happen and it'll be just as much fun when it does happen. :)

Re: Writing Game: Pending the Plot

Thanks for the understanding. I feel like I have to explain myself. One of the main reasons is school, but a lot of it is being chronically sick with migranes and having autism. I am not lying about this either - migranes and autism, and the anxiety and depression that comes with it, is not a laughing matter or something to be used as excuses.
