Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Re: The PENTAD

my dad usually called me 'kidlet' when i was growing up; other than that one, no nicknames then.

now, however, is a bit different. i answer to 'dragondawn' or 'DD', and jaime has come up with several variations (deeders, deedlydeedly, etc) of her own. my real name begins with 'T', and when i worked in the distribution arm of the music biz, 'T' was my nickname. my partner in crime at that job was  my friend leona, called 'le'...we were 'T' and 'le' to everyone in the sales department.  she still calls me that, when we get a chance to visit.

Re: The PENTAD

in our family it's quite a tradition to have a first name starting with "R". But small kids always have problems pronouncing "R" and it comes out as "H". My older sister is often called "Hosso" since that, although her real name is Rose.

My little brother is also often called "Fettsack", for he was quite a fat baby. Today he is the slimmest of us all but didn't loose the name:D

Dream on.

Re: The PENTAD

I called Tad 'T' once, when I first joined the boards, in a fit of breathless fangirlishness.

I am now an older and wiser Miiru, and call him "Your high supreme Eminence." I mean, duh.

Re: The PENTAD

Hi Tad. Haven't written on the boards for some weeks. Anyways, we are currently preparing a writing game in the Writers area. In the game, each chapter is written by a member of the boards and the chapter is based of a certain theme, making the story change constantly.

It will be very fun, but I had a question ask. What is your thoughts on Fan-Fiction. You see, some themes might be based off of one of your stories, but I wouldn't do that if you disliked the idea. Everyone here would agree with me on that, since we all want to respect your wishes and rights.

Re: The PENTAD

I'm pretty casual about fan-fiction -- flattered, even.  The only caveat is that if someone's selling it in any serious way, then my publishers' lawyers will go to their house and piddle on their hamster.

(And, yes, other domesticated rodents will receive similar treatment.  Didn't you READ the Guinea Pig Rider we attached to the original court order?)

Re: The PENTAD

Honestly, I don't like it when some authors dislike people writing fan fiction. I know the rights and stuff to belong to them, but it really does no harm if no law is broken.

Fan fiction helped me to hone my writing. Also my imagination.

By the way Tad, wait and see what some of us come up with in the writing game. The game should be fun. I hope everyone enjoys it, once it gets off the ground and running.

Re: The PENTAD

Hell, you can write slash fiction using my characters if you want to, I'm easy.  I'm not sure if I want to read it -- not because I'd be offended, but because I'd find it hard to write the characters with a straight face during the important-to-paying-my-bills novel-writing process.

I don't think that story should be sent to anyone. Paul Reuben might like it though.

So is Briony a zombie who is killing porn stars or is she a zombie porn star who is killing non-undead more private 'dancers', or is she just Briony who is killing post-death reanimated exhibiotinst performers?  Just wondered, the devil's in the details as we all know.
