"The Next"-Miniseries

Probably this is old news, but today the DC Comics-solicitations for July came out (http://www.newsarama.com/dcnew/July06/s … tions.html).

As a faithful DC-reader I take VERY special delight in this.

"THE NEXT #1
Written by Tad Williams
Art and cover by Dietrich Smith & Walden Wong
Acclaimed fantasy novelist Tad Williams (Tailchaser's Song, Shadowmarch) takes the DCU to the next level in a miniseries featuring art by Dietrich Smith (AQUAMAN, OUTSIDERS) & Walden Wong (DAY OF VENGEANCE)! Meet "The Next," a group of super-powered individuals who bring chaos - and a new super-villain - with them when they cross over from another dimension!
On sale July 12 1 of 6 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US Edited by Joey Cavalier"

Re: "The Next"-Miniseries

Thanks, great news.

I have been looking regularly at the DC website for news about the series, but never found anything.

Re: "The Next"-Miniseries

Tad, should you read this thread: I've got a question. On the cover of "The Next #1" there is a young guy holding on to Supe's cape. That couldn't be Jack "Starman" Knight, could it? Some people over at DC's Starman Message Board guessed so. To me he looks too young, but still ... it would be just a very, very nice decision to bring this character back into the world of comic books.

Re: "The Next"-Miniseries

So, the cover next to the annoucement was some sort of artwork from the actual comic?

Does this mean that Tad will work with established DC characters rather than create his own?

This is all news to me. And here I was excited that I'll be getting my hands on Kevin's Smith's "Quiver" where he wrote for the Green Arrow.

I guess there's a good chance that picture will actually be the issue's cover. I'd say the mini will be about new characters. Superman's on the cover and will certainly appear on some pages, but that's probably to attract new readers. Of course, I'm only guessing. Have no information other than what's solicited.

I really need to pay more attention to when my favorite writers delve into the world of comicdom.  Thanks for the heads up.

Bah, ABC hasn't got it listed yet. If they'll ever sell it. :( I simply have no clue how to get it. *pouts*

At Dccomics.com you can now download a mini-poster or THE NEXT.

It is a pdf, so you'll need the Acrobat Reader.

Re: "The Next"-Miniseries

By the way, Rhymer, I did post something on that DC message board a while back, explaining that it wasn't Jack/Starman.

Thanks (belatedly) for the heads-up.

Re: "The Next"-Miniseries

Tad was nice enough to consent to an interview to promote THE NEXT over at Your Mom's Basement. Please check it out.

Interview with Tad

I read the first issue (on stands now!) and it was really good. And dense. One of the best and most content-packed comics I've read recently.

Re: "The Next"-Miniseries

My copy of issue #1 finally arrived this morning. I read it at once.

I like the story so far and I like the characters. It will be interesting to see where things go.

I picked up The Next issues 1 and 2 while in Dublin.  Fun stuff!

Re: "The Next"-Miniseries

After the might and magnificent SS gave us a copy of The Next #1 at dinner...I couldn't read it.  Greatly dislike reading single issues, 'cause there isn't enough.  But I just went out and bout #2&3 yesterday, and ate them last night.

Mild spoilers.  No really.  Mild spoilers.

Did anyone else crack up at that line on page 2 of #1, "Where's dog?"  How twisty minded, to think of the Dogly One asking such a question.

Not very patiently waiting for #4.

I did! Very twisty indeed. Especially because it's one of those just can't explain it to anyone else things.
