SmarchRPG - OOC Thread_01
Figured I'd get the ball rolling here:
The Shadowmarch RPG:
CHARACTERS: What I'd like to see for character descriptions:
Name and Title(s): Should be obvious Titles are generally only for Nobles unless they are family titles.
Origins: Country, family etc
General Description: Tall/Short, Build, hair & style, eyes and face, style of clothing and general condition, cleanliness
Physical/Mental/Social Traits: adjectives – Strong, Weak, Graceful, Clumsy, Discerning. Oblivious etc….
Background/Training: Who are they, what do they do, what kind of Education or Training do they have.
Personality: Quirks, mannerisms, psychology
Notes: Anything truly special or unique that should be noted, i.e. - Possession of note.
LIMITATIONS: No Magic, no non-Humans, except possibly Funderlings. No relation to any of the Book characters.
NOTE: Characters do NOT have to be FROM Perikal, can be from anywhere.
------------------------------------------ SETTING: Perikal, around the time of Shadowmarch.

Re: SmarchRPG - OOC Thread_01
Character List: as characetrs are Posted in the Thread I will be Copying and Pasting them here for ease of finding for me as GM and for others.
Name: Imre Bartalan
Origins: Grew up in an orphanage in one of the poorer sections of Silasbridge. Has no knowledge of his parents or where the come from. Ran away from the orphanage when he was eleven and began living on the streets. Six years later he still cannot, and would not, hold down an honest job preferring to let others do the work and merely allieviating them of thier burdonous purses.
General Description: Average height with sandy coloured hair and grey-blue eyes. Mostly clean shaven and bathes at least once a week.
Physical/Mental/Social traits: Very nimble and dexterous. Very fast runner. Charming, friendly but, most importantly, forgettable. Has very little education but is very sharp. In best colours when in the company of women or rich men. Dislikes Soldiers or anyone with a similarily distasteful work ethic.
Personality: Very social. He lies quicker than breathing and will steal anything that isn't nailed down. Has no particular loyalties to anyone but himself and makes himself out to be sort of a tough guy. Is not very trusting and therefore has very few true friends but those he does have he treats like family. Dislikes anything that involves sweating and a great deal of physical effort.
Notes: He usually carries a minimum of ten knives on his person at any time - life on the streets is dangerous after all - and knows how to use them, And could probably outrun the wind if he tried. -------------------------------------------- Name: Yhana
Origins: Only daughter of Elek and Ilona, part of the Alkony Tribe of the Devoni.
General Description: Fifteen years old. A bit on the short side. Dark skinned (between tan and brown maybe), long dark hair, wide dark brown eyes. Pretty. Too thin. Likes to be clean but doesn’t usually remain so. Clothes are thin and torn and of faded bright colours. Generally don’t fit very well because they probably had several prior owners.
Physical/Social/Mental Traits: Graceful, agile, quick. A bit better than average strength. Quite clever and sharp-tongued on the few occasions that she actually opens her mouth to speak. Gets on best when alone. Distrusts men (see Notes) and rich people in general. Is generally uncomfortable when around a lot of people but shows a fondness for children and elders.
Background/Training: Considerably better than average knowledge of herb lore. Carries two small knives and one longer knife. Skilled at close-quarter fighting, both with knives and without weapon, however generally tries to avoid it due to a significant disadvantage in size. Has a small hunting bow and maybe half a dozen arrows that she salvages. Is a good shot.
Personality: Quiet. Bitter. Distrustful of most people. Is not at all a social creature. Has a certain natural sympathy for the “outcast” classes (thieves, beggars, the ill,) but does not actively seek out company. Has no loyalties. Is usually honest but has no problem with lying or stealing, both of which she’s fairly good at, but prefers not to if she can possibly avoid it. Isn’t used to being in one place for too long.
Notes: Fell in love with and was seduced by Sziriak of the Pirkadat Tribe when she was thirteen. Sziriak afterwards refused to marry her. Piroska was consequently exiled from the tribes (it was vital for women to be virgins at marriage.) Has been on her own ever since, generally going from city to city, begging or hunting at need. Is good at surviving. Possession of note: a silver necklace with a crescent moon pendant in moonstone that she keeps hidden at all times. -------------------------------------------- Name: Benedec Tyrsen
Origins: My family originally came from Northmarch, before the mists overran it, however many years ago. They had relatives down in Perkial, so they took refuge there. They come from a tradition of guardsmen and soldiery.
General Description: Tall and lean. Has long, striaght black hair which hangs past his shoulders. Wears browns with yellow and orange highlights.
Physical/Mental/Social Traits: Not necessarily strong, I put my combat techniques towards finesse and expertise. Also I like games of strategy, like chess and go. Socially, I only say what I feel is necessary and stay collected, which gives me an aura of command.
Background/Training: I have been trained extensively in guardsmanship, court etiquette and other various knowledges which go with serving nobles. Currently I am in service to Prince Vidor.
Personality: I don't like screwing around. I like to get to the heart of the matter as quickly as possible, but I do love strategy games.
Notes: I have a masterfully-crafted rapier given to me as a reward for my latest service to Prince Vidor. add that I also have a sense of humor, just so you guys don't think I'm a stuck up noble's guard. My attitude is just a less-is-more theorem. -------------------------------------------- Name: Írnok Chata (Chata is the given name, Írnok is the byname, meaning scribe) Origins: Her father was a rather wealthy merchant from Perikal, who had his only child educated. Mostly to keep the nosy child out of his busy way. Later he had her help him writing letters. Another merchant, a good friend of her father and even wealthier than he, was in need of a scribe and hired her. She went to live with him and the rest of his staff. General Description: Chata is of average height, has long blond, sandy hair and blue/grey eyes, something not very common in her country. Her skin is rather fair too. Rumour has it that her family is not originally from Perikal. Nobody knows where they did originate, not even Chata herself. She only knows that her grandparents were already living in Perikal and so considers herself and her family to be from Perikal. She is always immaculately clean and well dressed, since she has to deal with rich clients on a regular basis. Traits and Personality: Chata is rather shy among people she doesn't know. She is rather curious (see origins) and a quick learner. She is also naive and a bit too trusting. She isn't very strong or fast. Her greatest asset is her brain, not her body. Background/Training: She has been educated to read and write. She also knows her numbers. She has been writing letters for her father and has now been hired by a friend of her father as a scribe. If she takes her time, she can also draw pretty accurate. Notes: Lately she has been having disturbing dreams about a fierce creature sacking entire cities and viciously murdering all the inhabitants. -------------------------------------------- Name and Title(s): Meester Tymondo, (You would say master instead of meester but you will understand later on.)
Origins: Unknown sadly. The last thing remembered was the travelling to this country by ship. They told me I entered out of free will but by the lack of memory and the lump on my head I seriously doubt it.
General Description: I'm a Long man in his 20th year. My hair is long and blond and I have blue eyes, and a small goatee. My clothing is simple; nothing out of the ordinary, so I think. As soon as I have taken a bath I can call me self clean again. Traveling by boat isn't that good for one's appearence.
Physical/Mental/Social Traits: For a non-warrior he is quite strong but would probably fail to overcome a regular guard.
Background/Training: As I mentioned before Tymondo came from a far and distant land and during the journey he tried to master your tongue. In this task he succeeded quite well but still, his vocabulary isn't that large. He learned to master different kinds of instruments and also loves to sing or to tell story's. His minstrel education enables him to write the languages he speaks and to learn to speak and write other languages.
Personality: Tymondo is a fair and concerning but likes a joke once and a while.
Notes: I carry a Lute with me at all the times; A very precious possesion. --------------------------------------------

Good stuff so far and added to the list.
I'm good with the Gypsy tribes, though I had deliberately left out mention of them as there seemed a little to close to the real world. If you can come up with a name other than "Gypsy" that would be better...as it is I'll run with the idea as is. Hrmm here's a fun idea...call them them the "Devoni"...they can Originate from Devonis which was natch named after Tad's flamboyant Daughter...8) And hey, it even sounds cool...8)

Re: SmarchRPG - OOC Thread_01
Just a suggestion.
I've not thought this through carefully yet, but thought I'd check how you felt about it. It still needs (a lot) more work.
How about a scribe. Not very rich, very shy. I'll need a reason to be wandering the world. Maybe my master can kick me out for some reason just before the adventure starts?
Oh, and let's not forget that weird dreaming thing. Maybe that's what got me kicked out? Making too much noise in my sleep?

I just did a google search for my names. The site I got em from reckons that it means "innocent Farmer". I chose the Imre (innocent) because I was going to make him a thief. That appeals to my sense of humour.
btw, what does Yalahii mean?

Re: SmarchRPG - OOC Thread_01
It means "let's go hunting". It comes from the Jungle book, which we use at the cubscouts. My nick also comes from the Jungle book. Sahi is a porcupine (in the book). All the cubscout leaders took a name from one of the animals from the book.
I'm still working on my character. I've got a beginning, but it's not finished yet.
Oh, and to be called Imre as a thief, you'd have to be rather honest. For a thief anyway.

By master-crafted I meant crafted by a master, so in effect it's a lot more useful than a d&d rapier ;)
Also, yes I know Johan, and I think I'm in position to be moved around in the castle guard, as I just finished a service for Prince Vidor. So in effect, I'm ready for whatever you want to throw at me, Ren.

Okay still waiting for Sahi, but thats okay gives me time to make preperations.
@Ceywren; noted, will change now. Was just delaying to make sure you were okay with the change.
As A General note I plan to post major bits on Tuesday and Thursday in the evening (CST)as it's my few rare nights free. I may post lesser thigns over the weekend mornings, see how I feel. Either way I won't be posting anything of note durign working hours simply because I can't afford the distraction...lord knows Iam far too easily distracted as it...ohh shiny...
er anwyay. As far as Merchant clothing, well I dunn about styling, but colors would tend to be muted, browns, blacks and whites. Risher colors were generally reserved for the rich...plus dark colors can hide stains for longer...8)

Well you see, that's where I'm not sure. I've seen some pictures of something called a szur. It was supposed to be shepherds clothing and it was VERY colourful. As in high in reds and blues. Not drab at all.
But if someone knows of a site with paintings from that area and time...

No, I don't want to be flamboyant. I want to be normal, but I thought we'd go for a Hungarian setting and wanted to know what normal would be like. So if we decide that normal is drab, I'll be drab. ;)
