Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

Ah, well, you see the Dutch translation was VERY good. They even got the right to create their own new characters, which AFAIK no other country got. We have Tommy and Ieniemienie (Eeneemeenee). And our big bird is called Pino.  And we had a great cast of Dutch actors to support them. It wasn't all that American anymore.

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

The most we got in the way of localisation was when they inserted a little segment that taught some Maori.

So it was a very alien experience..there was very little I could relate to.
And I wasn't (and still aren't) very fond of the format itself.

Wow - you did get treated well.  Even the setting's different.
An urban american street really might as well have been mars for all the relevance it had to me.

The Big Bird in germany was called Bibo!

I loved him very much! But I liked the "Graf Zahl" also.

I bought a cd with sesamstreet songs - I I was very surprised, that I remembered nearly all lycrics after this long time of years!!!

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

FYI - As I recall, and I may be wrong, but it wasn't so much that Big Bird was the only one who could see Snuffleupagus, but the way timing working out for his visits was that no-one else was ever in the same palce as Big Bird and Snuffles at the same time as Snuffles was there. Thus everyone thought he was an "Invisible" or Imaginary friend of Big Birds. That and I think Snuffles was somewhat on the shy side...

And I don't mean that in a mass-media, hollywood sort of way.

I mean in the little details, the everyday stuff that matters to a kid - it was all different and wrong.  Strange names for things, strange concepts, and so on.

It was all too much for a poor little Kiwi kid with his marmite sandwich, his gumboots and his Buzy Bee.

Besides, I always preferred cartoons ;)

What's a Buzy Bee? Gumboots are a type of boot, I guess? I'm picturing galoshes. Tell me if I'm wrong, here, because now I must know.

It's a toy, and this piece of kiwiana that they're oh so proud of, like that soap. Sunshine soap? And ducks on the walls.

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

Things are getting weird in here...

I'm still sick as a dog.  Well, not as OUR dogs, who are remarkably well.  They're probably thinking, "Sick as a human", and glad they're not.  If you know what I mean.

Sherman, in fact, has such a rugged immune system that he's just been diagnosed with an ear cyst caused by too many white blood cells.

So healthy he's sick, in other words.

Meanwhile, I just feel like crap.  Still.

I thought the difference was cool and interesting - people with apartments below the stairs that went up from the street to the main doors.  New rather than irrelevant.  My first introduction to American culture.

What did bug me was the ABC song.  Americans end it with Zee - we end it with Zed.  Sesame St caused widespread confusion on this point.

As an aside, my other early exposure to Other Cultures was my mum explaining about Prince Charles was that he comes from another country so I might not be able to understand what he says.

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

I've had a nasty throat thing for over a month now, and I'm afraid it's probably something bacterial that can probably kill you over enough lapsed, unattended time. And I don't have insurance.

I actually considered putting a drop of bleach in my throat to save the money of seeing a doctor, but that could kill me or make me throw up a lot. So I haven't done that...

But the salt-water gargle method hasn't done much. Nor has hot tea. In the middle of the night I can't swallow, and my lips start falling off, and I start getting chills. But   in the middle of the day, I'm fine.

Just wanted to jump on the sick bandwagon... bored as hell down here in SOCAL, without a car to take me downtown. Just teaching myself web design and cracking my back in this goofy chair every few minutes. And listening to Mars Volta.

Tad, I wrote you a Christmas card last night. I might send it if there's a holiday coming up.

Max I hope you dont have strep throat. Cause if you do you need to see a doctor. Check out the wiki article to see if that sounds right: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strep_throat

Hands in pockets? Is that...is that a gang thing? Are you in a gang?! Did I just get threatened by a so called "gangsta"?! (note: this is not funny unless it is said in the whitest voice imaginable. And then it's only funny to me.)

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

Tad, the answer is simple- just nick some of the dog's excess healthiness and the balance of nature will be restored!

And let me know if it works. I've some extra padding my sister needs, and I want to steal some of her assets in return.

Kimpy knows what I mean. ~cryptic~

Also, Max? Get thee to a doctor. *I'll* pay for it if it means you don't die or grow extra tentacles or something. You're too awesome to wander around all diseased.
