Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Yes, don't forget the Corine Award speech and the short Tolkien essay you did for Klett-Cotta.

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

Right, I've robbed the liquor store.

Any hop of getting an Aus release in the next, say, 15 minutes. I think I can hear the sirens now...

Patience grasshopper! You should have waited with the robbery until the book was released. Now go find a place to hide!

Have you checked out the one sentence per person story , I'm doing my best to riddle it with bad puns.  Feel free to make it worse.

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

I was so psyched to hear about Tad pitching Dogs Versus the World to Adult Swim when I met him a year ago at a Shadowmarch book signing event in MN, in Hugo's Bookstore, the first Independent Sci-Fi/Fantasy Bookstore in the US...I think.

Anyways, then I was in a huge state of depression when I heard they never got back to him. It was like the Stock Market just crashed in my head, my mind had lost everything valuable, and all I had left was several rotting pieces of bread to eat. What a crappy metaphor.

Anyways...again...Does anyone know if the script for episode one, which he just showed is available in the anthology is online somewhere? And if its not illegal to download? Also, Tad, are you pitching the show to anybody else?

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

I decided against the Corine speech because it's really very short.  DAW requested I not put "Burning Man" in there because we still intend to do the Osten Ard collections one of these days.  The only other actual story that isn't in it is a new one called "The Stranger's Hands" which I did for a Gardner Dozois/Jack Dann anthology which hasn't even come out yet.

Looking at the whole group, I was pleased by how little "standard" fantasy there was, and how diverse the stories are.  (That doesn't mean I'm saying they're good, just diverse.)

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

Sorry, Ren, missed your question.  Yes, it's called "The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of..." (and, yes, for you purists out there, it's a deliberate misquote of Shakespeare.)

I hadn't thought about the Tolkien piece.  I wonder if I still have it...

Tad,
if you don't have a copy of the Tolkien piece for Klett-Cotta anymore, I still have an electronic copy that I typed up when I quoted your essay for my MA Thesis.

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

Not to sound pest or anything, but I'm figuring my message wasn't seen a few posts earlier about Dogs Versus the World. Is the episode one script available online, or do we have to wait for it to come out in the collection?

Also, Tad: Were you ever able to get publishing rights to the Rings of Niblehiem so you could make that trilogy off of them that you told me through email. You said you interested in something like that, about a year or more ago. I hope it all goes good for you, cause you deserve it. Keep up the good work!

Ok.

I've robbed the liquor store.  Now how do I get the book store to accept liquor as payment?

Re: DOGBLOG: Beyond Poodledome.

To get the bookstore to accept liquor as payment, talk to the underage employee as he's going off-shift.

"Hey, kid, I've got something you want." Be sure to wear a trenchcoat, and open it surreptitiously in a dark alley.
