Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Re: What Makes You Happy?

Remembering that even though we are two opposites, I have been best friends with my neighbour for 17 years now. (all my life, you can say ^__^)

I've got kind of an odd one, it's an upper, then a downer, then an upper again.  It goes kind of like this.

Young kid, playing in the grass comes across something new, this makes me smile as I see the look of wonder on their face as they inspect the caterpillar or whatever it is.  That kind of wonder brightens my day immensely.

This is immediately followed by the knowledge that it won't be long before that kid is growing, and becoming more jaded by increasing awareness of the fact that life isn't fair... drags me right back down...

Seconds later, this thought always crosses my mind, and I feel better again immediately.  That thought is "Yeah, yeah that'll happen, but not today."

Thunderous applause!

That was wonderful; and thank you!

~ My kid's laughter, their hugs etc.  I guess those go without saying.

~ Watching my daughter play ringette, skating around just as good as all the other kids on her team.

~ A peppermint mocha from Starbucks.

~ Knowing that I have 4 great friends who live within shouting distance of my house.

Re: What Makes You Happy?

Knowing that I and everyone here can take a few minutes to forget all the crap in their lives and think of something happy.

Yes.  That makes me very happy, indeed.

Re: What Makes You Happy?

Couples make me happy. I think they're so cute, especially when they're in high school. Not in a condescending way either - I just want to follow them muttering, "Cute cute!" except they'd probably call the police or something.

*Examines the screen blearily, huddled in his fleecy shirt.*

Going for the really simple gratification, my morning cup of coffee, sometime soon after my morning shower.  If I can get a cup of coffee within a half an hour of my shower, it's gonna be a good day.  And that always makes me happy.

Re: What Makes You Happy?

I love it when Infinity hands me a cup of tea. Or when he smiles at me. That special, just-for-me smile.

What? I'm not insane.

Re: What Makes You Happy?

~ Waking up yesterday morning to my cat carefully positioning herself with all 4 paws in the palm of my hand and snuggling next to my face like she used to do with my mother.

~ And... I have to second Malachy - Coffee, in the morning, especially when I don't have to go to work and can sit in the sunroom and look out at the snow and read a book (which is what I plan to do tomorrow morning!)

What a nice thread *smiles dreamily* - It's making me think of all kinds of things that make me happy,  I can just feel the endorphins....

Oh!  And the cutest kid in the world whom I saw in a restaurant tonight  - who grinned ear-to-ear and giggled every time I turned to look at him.

Re: What Makes You Happy?

What makes me happy? There are several - more or less healthy;-)- things which improve my mood. Worst case: Glass of wine; much better: Reading a good book, eating chocolate, calling some friends

Re: What Makes You Happy?

as i'm sure you'll all be shocked to know, ultimate frisbee makes me happy.
the best thing is tournaments.  an entire weekend full of ultimate...  the games are fun, there's always plenty of eye candy, there's gauranteed to be a party somewhere, and the people that play ultimate are ridiculously fun.  what other sport has participants who gleefully dress in costume for tournaments?  i've played entire teams dressed as superheroes or pirates or cheerleaders or postal workers.  maybe this is why nobody takes us seriously...  i'm telling you, never underestimates pirates or dreadlocked, tattoed men in kilts.  they should always be taken seriously.

I have never not taken seriously a dreadlocked, tattooed person in a kilt.

Sam - I am sure there is plenty eye candy, 'specially if those men in kilts dress traditionally .... if you know what I mean.

Making a certain person forget the things that make her sad, so she looks at me and smiles and I know it's my fault she's smiling.

Re: What Makes You Happy?

A nice hot cup of cocoa steaming in my hand as I watch the snow swirling down out of the sky at night, knowing I don't have to go out in it in the morning.  Combine that with a good book (entertainment, not thought provoking), soft music and my favorite fleece bathrobe.... yeah, that's the makings of a good night there.  I miss living with my parents on nights like that because they have a fireplace and I don't *grins*
