Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'
-    Kurt Vonnegut, 1922-2007

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

But the main requirement here is: have fun.

Re: What Makes You Happy?

Being soaked with rain, knowing you can go home at any time to take a shower and put on other clothes...

My cat... talking to me, cuddling up at me, "hugging" my feet... etc etc etc

Standing in a little "hut" halfway on a mountain watching a thunderstorm passing by...

Buying silly little things of no worth at all...

Getting a new wallet.... and then putting all the silly pieces of paper (that I shouldn't really keep, but that have some sort of memory attached to them) into the new wallet...

Getting acknowledgement for my work... the real kind...

Having an online chat with friends far away...

Lying in a comfy chair in the middle of the "Dordogne" in France on a campsite, with no light- nor soundpollution and listening to the silence and watching the stars...

Finding THE next (story)line for my story...

Reading one of THOSE books, that makes you just jump in joy, knowing that there are stil honest, real writers out there...

*connected to the previous*
Discovering new authors...

Receiving a package in the mail... or smarch-christmas-cards...

And many many more...

"If you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend you life completely wasting your time. You'll be doing things you don't like doing in order to go on living, that is, to go on doing things you don't like doing... which is stupid."

Re: What Makes You Happy?

When my programm just suddenly starts, after resisiting for several hours to do so. Feels like a huge stone beeing lifted from your heart. Especially when it is just a few more hours till the deadline, when I need to have my programm send off to some university-server.

Dream on.

riding my old clatterbike as fast as I can, remembering how it felt being telve years old and hunting for adventures on the same, not-yet-so-clattery bike with my friends.

The smells of wheat fields and nettles.

being woken up at home, in my own bed by the sun shining on the curtains around my bed so that my entire little "cave" is full of brilliant colours; thinking, "oh, my bed is so pretty and comfortable" and going back to sleep.

sitting on the deck by the swimming pond, dangling my feet in the water, looking at the reeds and water lilies and dragonflies and eating a handful of raspberries I found on the way, forgetting my worries for half an hour.

Ben & Jerry's Dublin Mudslide, a relatively-cool bedroom (it's been so sticky lately!), and Harry Potter (Book 6, about 1/4 of the way through).

Re: What Makes You Happy?

curling up on my bed (the only place here that feels a bit like home) and reading a few pages of the Dragonbone Chair... there are some people in books who reliably make me smile, and Binabik is one of them.
