Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

Log flumes.  hahaha.  That reminds me of the last time I was on one, with Marian, in which she reinforced her title as Queen of Accidental Smut:  "But I don't want to sit in someone's wet spot!"

Re: Mooey's Bouncy Castle

Might as well post this here.

Baby degus are two weeks old today!  They've had their first cage cleaning, complete with first experience with the wheel and first dust bath.  They're so cute when they first touch the dust.  All they can do is stand there, feet splayed out in all directions, trying to figure out what just happened.  Just when I was ready to put them back in their cage, they decided to all line up in a row and take a nap.  How could I disturb that?

Kitsune was a marvelous help the whole time, jumping up and scaring the babies, getting completely in the way, sticking his nose in the garbage bag.  I kicked him out as soon as I could.  Stupid dog.

The parents had been getting mean on me, as I've told some of you.  Since being moved to the living room, they're a lot calmer and more social.  Seems the problem was that by being kept in the bedroom, they were getting un-used to people.

Also learned this morning that the babies love wheat Chex.

Re: Mooey's Bouncy Castle

Oh what fun! Babies of all types are marvy.

How small are the babies now?

and my fave ride or thing to do is this one we always had at the Texas State Fair called the Himaylaya. It goes backwards and around over kinda hills and they play rock n roll music and it keeps going faster and faster and faster and they ask if you wanna go faster and then we all scream yes and he says I can't hear you and we scream yes again and... *pants*

Yeah! That's the one.

Re: Mooey's Bouncy Castle

Yeah, I love that ride, too!  I forget what they call the one at the fair here, though...

As for the babies, if you put your two thumbs together, that's about what size they are.  I have four more weeks of them, by which time they'll be about twice that.  I only wish I could put them in a bigger cage, but they're so sensitive, it'll mess them up.  When I was still living with whatshisface, we once had to move them from one end to the other of the table they were on.  It messed up them for a week.  Everything scared them and they wouldn't come out of the cage.  Silly kids.

Re: Mooey's Bouncy Castle

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

My mom saw an add in the paper for two degus with a cage for free.  She wanted me to phone and get them but I had to exert massive amounts of willpower to resist 'cause our zoo is big enough right now I think.

Hope they found a good home.

Re: Mooey's Bouncy Castle

zoos are never big enough!  at one given time, between me and my mom, we had:

-three dogs
-three rabbits
-two hamsters
-four lizards
-a 60-gallon aquarium with various fish, frogs, newts, snails
-a smaller tank with an African knife fish, who previously had been in the other tank and got very big while other fish mysteriously disappeared

at other times, we've had a sugar glider, tree frogs, and a Sicilian worm, which is as close to a snake as my stepdad would allow in the house :P

as for "free degus with cage," that usually means the person got them and had no clue how to handle them, the degus turned mean, and he just wants them gone.  if you ever do get degus, get them as babies, and don't pay more than $10 each.

too bad you don't live closer :(  you could have your pick of hand-tame babies in four weeks!

Re: Mooey's Bouncy Castle

Mooey puffs curiously beside Candide's dressing table, staring up at the side of Candide's strangely bare head.  Two foam heads sit atop the table: one with the glamorous but familiar fire-red wig, the other with a new, shorter one in a much toned-down shade with a few natural-looking highlights.

Candide sighs with a mix of longing and exasperation, her eyes flicking back and forth between the two heads staring back at her.  Lovingly curling a red tress around one finger, a look of resignation comes over her.  Picking up the short wig, she fluffs it out much as one does a throw pillow and, eyes shut tight, slides it over her scalp.

Taking a deep breath, her eyes open a moment later and stare at the mirror, a heart-shape ring of smoke wafting past her.  She smiles first at the smoke, then at the auburn-framed face before her.  The vision is softer, but still vibrant.  The face is no longer lost and disempowered by wild scarlet, but rather set regally with a warm, supple crown.

She sets her lips into a small, determined smile, gives her head a toss, and rises from the chair.  Slipping a soft sheer wrap around her shoulders she moves toward the door, catching herself in mid-turn to glance back at the old comfortable wig, at the old comfortable Candide.

Reaching for the lightswitch, she espies her little dragon friend pulling a long red tress from the table and laying it across the scales on her arm, no doubt to see if this could be a good color for her.  Candide smiles softly and rasps, "Not quite yet, baby."  Mooey stops a moment, then nods sagely and bumbles past Candide out of the room.

Candide takes her moment then to let her eyes linger on the red cloud that now occupies most of the vanity table.  Untamed and well worn, with one lock now reaching to the floor, the old image of Candide now sits inert as she flicks off the light and firmly, carefully shuts the door.
