Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Welcome to the message board for tadwilliams.com. All comments are welcome, whether kudos or brickbats. However, please bear in mind that Tad would like this to be a friendly, civil message board, at least in the relations between users. We reserve the right to remove postings, or even ban postings, from anyone who crosses the boundary of reasonable taste. Basically, you can argue vigorously with someone, but watch your language, okay? We have a lot of young readers as well as grown-ups, so please show them some respect.

Right now, the cricket from Sydney. Ball-by-ball over the Internet. And yes, it is gripping.

Re: What are you watching?

More last night really - saw an interesting BBC 1 documentary on Hell's Angels and earlier Demolition Day on Channel 4 - its like a reverse Scrapheap Challenage - sort of.

Tonight will be soaps. (Neighbours, Home and Away, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Eastenders). Yep soaps from 5.30 - 8.30. I know, its sad. Actually at least two will end up being background noise.

Re: What are you watching?

The other night: O Brother, Where Art Thou? Mom made me watch it. I'm glad she did; I giggled my way through the whole movie, and then burned meself a copy of the soundtrack. Looked up the words to "Didn't Leave Nobody But The Baby" and have been singing it since.

Recently saw the spanish movie "Abre los Ojos" (english language remake called "Vanilla Sky"). Thought it was a terribly good movie.

And before that "Return of the King", of course.

Re: What are you watching?

Last movie I watched in the theater:   The Last Samurai.  And while it did star tom cruise (which meant that i was vaguely embarrassed to go see it) i had no choice due to a complicated set of circumstances which resulted in me taking my little sister and dressing in full LOTR regalia.    In any case, I surprised myself by thoroughly enjoying it.  I'm not exactly sure why, because the plot was nothing special and none of the actors were outstandingly awesome.  But I thought it was good.
Last movie I watched at home:  the chinese movie Hero.  Yeah, whoa.  Run Lola Run meets Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with a twist of Ansel Adams.  Plot suffered for the sake of the visual elements, but there were some ridiculously beautiful sequences.  And the soundtrack was stunning as well.  Plus it had english subtitles, which is always fun.

Re: What are you watching?

Heroīs a really bad ripoff of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Rashomon. Itīs all surface without the slightest hint of depth. The one real star of it is Chris Doyle, the DP who is a genius.

The last film I watched in the theatre was Lost in Translation and I absolutely loved it. Good thing Sofia Coppola decided to give up that acting job.

Last Samurai was very surprisingly good.  I enjoyed it a lot.  The university theater is playing Lost in Translation next weekend... I'm going to have to catch it then.

Bits I quite enjoyed, and Katsumodo was awesome.  But as a whole...I dunno.

Re: What are you watching?

I was curious to know what my Japanese students thought of The Last Samurai.  Almost all of them gave it the thumbs up, but quite a few of them said that the only unrealistic part (despite Tom Cruise becoming a master Samurai swordsman in just a few short months) was that Katsumoto was far too educated for a Samurai.  Even if he was a total babe....
