Re: The Church of Erotic Pantheism: Back in the Business of Pleasure

*g*  More than two would be too much for me.  Two is good.  They keep each other company when we're out, but when necessary, each of us can scoop one up and shove her into a carrier.

Anyways, I'd say just go look around the local shelters and see who strikes your fancy.  Purebreds are very nice, but there are so many needy kitties out there.  The shelter Beth works at is getting a touch overcrowded right now, and the woman who runs it is getting on in years and having an increasingly difficult time running the place. :-(

Re: The Church of Erotic Pantheism: Back in the Business of Pleasure

oh, no worries about how i'll get my kitty! *grin* i'll do it the same way i got marley; from my friend who fosters for the SPCA. she also does a bit of siamese breed rescue as well. if i tell her i'm looking for a russian blue, she'll keep her eyes open for one in the foster system. she's good at matching cats and people anyway; marley is a perfect match for me and my old dog.

Re: The Church of Erotic Pantheism: Back in the Business of Pleasure

I'm going to go see Jacqueline Carey this afternoon.

If you haven't heard about the Kushiel trilogy yet, well, um... Dart, Chosen, Avatar.  Now you have.

Dark sensuality.  And adventure.  With historical fiction / alternate history flavors, and a touch of fantasy, and a rather interesting religious mythology that leads to an ethos rather friendly to that of Erotic Pantheism.

She was at Borderlands yesterday, and I will go see her again today up in Berkeley, at Dark Carnival. :-)

So, TTFN...

Re: The Church of Erotic Pantheism: Back in the Business of Pleasure

the door creaks open, and in a gust of wind dragondawn (and a bit of the rainstorm) enters the church. she goes into the cloakroom and sheds her wet clothing, drying her hair with a bit of towel. she searches out her robes of office on the pegs, and slips them on...the cool indigo silk soothing her as it always does, in look and touch. her bare feet making no sound on the heated stones of the floor, she goes to one side of the nave, and collects 3 votive candles and some matches. she heads for a small alcove off the main room of the church. here, banks of candles flickered beneath frescoes of the rites of the church, as performed by the goddess and her consorts. dragondawn places the three candles in a pyramid shape and lights them, in clockwise order. once their light is added to the other waving flames, she settles to the soft cushions placed in the alcove for reflection and meditation and lounging (which is a minor sacrament of the church). she clears her mind of negativity, and gathers her thoughts, in preparation for a possible job interview. she hopes her delay to research the position and industry did not prevent her from being considered for a position, if one was even available. she sighs, and clears her mind further...aiming for emptiness..peace..tranquility. she centers herself, focusing on her breathing and then moving her awareness out along her limbs. she slowly tenses each group of muscles starting at her feet and moving up, until she gets to her neck and face and scalp. once she relaxes those last muscles, she feels a wave of tingly relaxation wash over her. she smiles, and feel things might just work out okay as long as she keeps her head on straight.

feeling much better about things in general, she rises from the cushions and heads for the stone staircase that leads to the basement bedrooms for the church officiants. she slips into the last one on the corridor of rooms and shuts the door.

Hi Auros! Glad you're back, fellow catlover.

Cute babies you have. May I make a link to their pictures for my collection of smarchers' cat pictures?

Re: The Church of Erotic Pantheism: Back in the Business of Pleasure

Anyone can link to the page, or copy a pic or two for their own page...  I'd prefer not to have direct use of my bandwidth (i.e. including an IMG tag in your page referring to my files) because there's no guarantee I won't alter the directory structure (leading to broken links), or otherwise mess your link up.  (Also, it's just bad netiquette to steal bandwidth -- this happens to pics in the gallery at Strange Horizons sometimes -- so it's not a practice I like to encourage, even when it's sharing, not really "stealing".)

Re: The Church of Erotic Pantheism: Back in the Business of Pleasure

*bounce bounce*  Now I feel all useful and shtuff.

We should really try to have a BayArea minimoot some time.  Perhaps in May or June?  I could make mango-and-sticky-rice.  I've gotten pretty good at that.  I'd suggest strawberry-rhubarb pie, but the local rhubarb season is coming to an end now.  Actually, the best season for mangos is pretty much ending too.  The little yellow-orange ones show up during late March and early April.  Much sweeter and less fibrous than the big green and red ones.  But that's OK, the sticky rice doesn't have any particular season, and it can compensate for even mediocre mangos. :-)

Anyways...  I'd even be happy to host, given enough lead-time.

As the dragondawn spreads her wings
And in the first blazing rays of the flowing morninglight
Set flight over oceans of radiant azure blissfull tides
Over majestic mountains of old, mountains of gold
Past heavens breaking through the serenity into clashing lightning and storm
Through crimson horizons bursting with the glory of dusk
To where proud swords are raised high to the sky...
Now let eternity's saga unfold..

OK, anyone know a cure for w****r`s cramp ??

Re: The Church of Erotic Pantheism: Back in the Business of Pleasure

As in, the kind in your wrist?  I think you're supposed to ice it.  If you have any of those nifty gel-paks that you stick in the freezer, they're great.  Cold like ice, but not quite as harsh, and flexible so you can wrap them around the area that needs treatment.  (Plus, you can throw 'em in a cooler when you go picnicking! *g*)

If you're having serious trouble, though, you might consider going to visit a doctor...  (What kind of doctor does one consult about repetitive stress syndrome, anyways?  I've had some problems from time to time...  Was very unhappy at my last office, which was profoundly UNergonomic.)
