Tad Williams' Message Board

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

QM - Lost and Found: Brains and Dragons

Things get lost all the time. Sometimes it's a key, your second sock or your brain. On a really bad day, you might misplace your dragonly self, not to be found again for years. It happens.

Fortunately, what is lost can be found again and this Mint is intended to help. Several drunk playwrights and a hidden corpse were found (and disposed of) during the construction of the main hall alone.

Sorry. That was me. In my defense, I was distracted by TWC talk.

Re: QM - Lost and Found: Brains and Dragons

My plans for the evening feel through, as my computer is covered in foil to protect it from the dust (as we're painting the house, which includes sanding), and the new laptop doesn't have a disc drive to install some old software. Hmm, I just realized I could try to find said software on the web...

Okay, so I've installed a download trial version, but then I couldn't figure out where to enter the license code. Oh well, at least it's on there now. It will start complaining about the license sooner or later.

Re: QM - Lost and Found: Brains and Dragons

It's been a nice day, at a pretty mediaeval fair in a pretty castle, but I was also tied and achy and, consequently, grumpy. And my camera broke. And now half an hour from home, the car broke down as well. And it'll take ninety minutes for someone to come and look at it. And we're almost out of water, and I'm thirsty. But on the other hand, if we had water, I would have to pee, and I don't want to use a disgusting portapotty. And I just want to get home and shower and go to bed.

In short: pity me.

I'm my own evil twin.

Glad you were to a nice fair, but sorry your drive sucked so much :/
Hope it can be fixed quickly and you'll be home soon!

Sorry to hear about your camera :( And your car. And the port-o-potties, which are universally dreadful.

Re: QM - Lost and Found: Brains and Dragons

Home at last, showered and in bed with a snack.

Repair guy showed up earlier than expected, and the problem was easily fixed. (Or temporarily fixed, will need a proper repair in a few days. Luckily it's not my car.)

The camera, though - bah. I'm planning to spend tomorrow staring at cameras on the internet and trying to figure out what's a good one, so I can buy a new one next week.

The market hasn't changed a lot, I think (it's dying due to mobile phones with good cameras), but I am sure there are a couple new models of interest.

That would be awesome.

Re: QM - Lost and Found: Brains and Dragons

I've looked at a few already. Which model did you have, so I can use that for comparissons?
Did you end up using the full zoom a lot? How much are you willing to spend? Is image quality in low light important or do you mostly shoot in full sunlight? Is WiFi useful to you? Many cameras now allow you to shoot from a smartphone app and transfer the result to the phone, so you can quickly upload it (the new phone takes somewhat reasonable pictures, so using the phone directly is also feasible).

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX350

Yeah, the zoom has been very useful and I would miss it quite a lot, and it's the main reason why I still prefer using the camera over the phone, and would even if I had a newer phone that took better pictures.

Price, I don't know yet (haven't had time yet to look around and get a feeling for what would be a reasonable price), but the less the better.

Low light - pretty useful as well. (Looking at the pictures from when we got our master certificates, my camera took significantly better pictures than LG's or my mother's phones.

Wifi - I think the one I have now could do that too, but I've never used it.
